Pros:Great wand, doesn't clump, no fumes to bother my eyes
The Bottom Line: Estee Lauder's More Than Mascara is a great product that I will continue to buy as long as they make it!
I absolutely love the Estee Lauder brand of cosmetics. They started selling their products in Saks Fifth Avenue department stores in 1948, and have become a strong leader in the cosmetics market ever since.
A few times a year our local Gottschalks store will offer a super deal on certain Estee Lauder products. When you buy the full sized version of a specific item, you get a small cosmetic bag full of "gift with purchase" sample sized cosmetics totally free. These gifts usually include items like lipstick, liquid blush, perfumes, and mascara. I can see why the company does this, they get you to try out new products and hope you'll love them so much you return to purchase the full sized version, at the full retail price!
So it was that I was introduced to the Estee Lauder More Than Mascara. Because mascara is a beauty item that should not be used as long as other cosmetics, this is probably a big money maker for the cosmetic industry.
The More Than Mascara is designed in a sleek black tube, with a gold band around the top portion. My trial sized version is only .1 ounces, and comes in a black tube with a shiny gold lid.
The best part about this product is the wand! I am probably too fussy about mascara brushes, but they are very important to get that proper look. The brush on this wand is wide at it's base, and expands even wider at the center, then tapers off to a point at the end.
When I pull the brush out of the tube, there is a good amount of resistance, which means I am not getting too much excess mascara on the brush. There is absolutely NO clumping when I remove this from the container.
Although this comes in several shades (rich black, rich brown, black/ brown, rich navy, more black, and rich navy), my color is the rich black 01.
My Experience with "More Than Mascara"
I really like this mascara! The brush is one of the best I've ever used, and it helps separate my lashes, but still give me a natural look. (The company says that this brush is a "hollow-bristle" brush). I am not one to apply more than one layer of mascara to my lashes, although you certainly can, just wait for the first coat to dry. I hate that tarantula look, so I only apply one coat.
My eyelashes have never been one of my strong points, they are thin and light colored, but his mascara does do a nice job in defining my them, making them stand out without looking made up. Estee Lauder claims that their formula lengthens and locks in moisture to help prevent breakage. The mascara formula uses conditioners to help my lashes stay moisturized, with no dry or brittle feel.
I feel good knowing that every Estee Lauder mascara is fragrance free as well as being tested by an ophthalmologist. I have sensitive eyes, and when I go for a walk in the cold or wind, they will always tear up. It's embarrassing because people think I'm crying. I have used cheap mascaras that actually give off fumes that really bother my eyes. Estee Lauder's More Than Mascara does not cause any problems for my sensitive eyes, there are NO fumes, and it doesn't run on those occasions when I do tear up.
The formula doesn't flake off either, which is a problem I have had with cheaper brands of mascara. There's nothing worse than mascara flaking off and making black smudges on my face or eyebrow area.
I consider this Estee Lauder mascara a volume mascara. It helps define my lashes in a gentle way, and it lasts all day long.
Estee Lauder products are only found in fine department stores, and you will pay a premium price for them. The full sized version of this mascara costs $21, which is more than double what you will pay in a grocery or drug store. I feel it's worth it.
