Pros:The chicken was amazing.  Good salsa too.
Cons:A child being allowed to run around the restaurant.
The Bottom Line: We are pleased that we tried Estela's Mexican Restaurant.  The food was good, the portions large, and overall an okay experience.

I bought a restaurant.com certificate a few months back for Estela's Mexican Restaurant.  I paid $2 for it, and would receive $25 of food.  However, I had to spend $35 or more to get this deal.

Len and I decided to go for lunch, about a week ago.  We waited a few minutes before being seated.  We were asked if we wanted a table, or booth.  We opted for a booth.  We were given one big enough for 4 people, which I like.

Our server gave us menus, and I showed her the certificate.  She told me that it wasn't for the lunch menu.  I told her that I had already phoned, and was told that we could have dinner, any time they were open.  She bought us the correct menus, and asked to take our drink order.  Len had diet coke, and I had water.

I ordered the #8 One Enchilada, One Tamale, Rice and Beans @ $9.60.  The Pollo Ranchero, which is a grilled chicken breast covered with Estela's own spicy Ranchero sauce and spicy cheese.  This came with beans, rice, and a guacamole salad @ $11.75.  Also the Pollo Champericao that is a grilled whole chicken breast, topped with grilled onions, pablano peppers, mushrooms, broccoli, zucchini, with rice, beans, and guacamole salad @ $12.75.

Our server brought us salsa and nachos to start.  She brought us extra napkins too.  While we were munching on these, she refilled Len's drink.  Soon after our food came out.  I took the Polla Champerico, Len had the Pollo Ranchero, and the combo was placed between us.  We both had flour tortillas too.

I tasted Len's food and the chicken had a really nice spicy brown colored sauce to it.  Mine was covered with vegetables, which I love.  The chicken was nice and thin, and covered almost half of the large plate.  It was so tender, and went really well with the combination of vegetables.

Our salads had sliced iceberg lettuce, one slice of tomato, sour cream, and guacamole.  I loved it all apart from the sour cream, which isn't a favorite of mine.  If I had known I would have asked to have it on the side. We both ate the salads, Len finished his meal, and I had about a third of mine.  I am such a small eater, that the salsa and chips had filled me up.

Although the meal was good, I had the full meal left, and a large amount of mine.  I asked for 2 boxes so that we would have dinner for the following day.  After taking off the $25, the meal came to $11.77, and with these certificates 18% is added for the gratuity, making a total of $18.70.  If we hadn't have had the certificate the price would have been $45 with the tax.

We were happy to pay this price, but that would have been a little on the high side for Pasco county, if we had paid in full.  We could have gone to Chili's and got their 2 can dine for $20, and received an appetizer, and 2 entrees.  When we go there I always bring 2 boxes home.

Len went to the bathroom, and said that it was clean.

After we had finished our meal, a young child started running around the restaurant.  We didn't mind as we had finished eating.  Our server had to stop him from doing it.  She had him help her, and that was fine.  This may have caused a problem if someone had gone in for a quiet meal.  I believe this to be a family restaurant, but children should be at home, or in daycare.  A restaurant is not the place to take a child, unless you are a diner.

Many of my friends go to this restaurant, and enjoy it.

I would give it a 4 for food, 4 for service, but the child running around has to bring the overall rating down.  Sorry, but I don't know if this was a one off, or not.
