Pros: Amazing - you'll enjoy music and movies on an airplane.
Cons: Got to clean them sometimes, slight discomfort.
The Bottom Line: If you fly a lot (or even a little) get these earphones. They bring noise isolation to a level you won't believe and the sound is to die for.

The ER-6i is a newer version of the ER-6. It comes in white (to match your iPod), offers more sound isolation (3 rubber rings instead of two) and has slightly higher bass response than the 6.
I have a pair of Sennheiser noise canceling headphones which work wonderfully. But on a noisy plane, they just don't cut out enough to be able to comfortably listen to music with a wide dynamic range. This is not particularly surprising - noise canceling can only work over a limited frequency range.
These phone, on the other hand, simply block out the sound and they do it beautifully. Kids crying, loud engine noise they all mostly go away. If the music is soft you can hear someone talking to you, otherwise not. Now I can easily listen to classical music.
And the sound - it's beautiful and clear. Not only can you hear the soft nuances, but the definition is wonderful. I agree that you cannot do better for the money (and even with more money you have to work hard for better sound).
I was a little nervous that these would be uncomfortable on long flights, and they're not really the kind of things you can borrow from a friend. I shouldn't have worried, just came back from a 12 hour flight over the Pacific, they worked like a charm. Just moisten them a little before inserting them.
It IS a little weird sticking things in your ears, and for a little while after you take them out you can still feel the effects. But you get used to it real quick and it's worth it.
Sealed earpieces like this may affect your ability to equalize pressure in your ears during takeoff and landing. I found that when I had a cold and I was congested, takeoffs and landings were less comfortable. I just take them out before landing and have no problems.
I also liked the fact that they are VERY compact. As a business traveler, packing light is paramount. Just look at folks hauling around the Bose 'phones, you'll see what I mean. As other reviewers have noted the cord is a little on the long side, I just coil some of it up with a twist tie.
I'd be very hesitant to wear these walking outside, driving, etc - anywhere when safety could be an issue. They just work too well. And though they sound better than my normal earbuds, I don't wear them when in a quiet place.
