Moisturizes skin 24 hours
Alpha Hydroxy formula to exfoliate skin
Cons:Alpha hydroxy acid makes skin susceptible to sunburn
The Bottom Line: If you are not going to spend a good deal of time in the sun, I recommend Eucerin Plus Smoothing Essentials for dry skin.
Before I begin my review, I wish to note the picture of Eucerin Plus Smoothing Essentials is correct, although the name of the product in the epinions database in incorrectly listed. Eucerin carries a separate line of redness relief products of which I am not reviewing.

I ran out of my regular body lotion and went to the pharmacy to purchase another bottle. The pharmacy had all the various Gold Bond lotions displayed, but they were out of stock of my favorite lotion, Gold Bond Smoothing Skin Therapy with Chamomile lotion. Because this is the only Gold Bond lotion that is fragrance free, I searched the shelves to find another brand which was also fragrance free.
I noticed that Eucerin Plus Smoothing Essentials was an unscented lotion. I purchased a 16.9 oz. bottle and thought I would use it until I ran out and my regular Gold bond lotion was back in stock.
The Eucerin Plus Smoothing Essentials lotion is contained in a tall, white bottle with a bright aqua pump that is attached to the same color cap. The front of the bottle states the lotion is “fast absorbing and clinically proven effective for very dry skin.” Although my skin is not dry, it can get somewhat itchy during the winter months and I need some hydration, especially on my legs so they don’t look like alligator skin come spring!
What I did not notice when I purchased this lotion is that it is an alpha hydroxy formula which helps to exfoliate and smooth skin. Because of this, the back of the bottle has a Sunburn Alert: “This product contains an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) which may increase your skin’s sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn.” It also states to “limit sun exposure while using this product and for a week afterwards.”
Great! This lotion is not what a boater needs to use during the summer. Eucerin Plus Smoothing Essentials would be fine for me to use during the winter months, but I will have to discontinue its use in the spring, for my skin is susceptible to sunburn and I don’t need to use a lotion that will exacerbate the problem.
The white, creamy lotion flows easily out of the pump. In comparison to the Gold Bond lotion I usually use, it is a much thinner lotion. It absorbs quickly and doesn’t feel greasy. It is dermatologist tested and safe for sensitive skin. It is clinically proven to moisturize skin for 24 hours.
Keep out of the reach of children.
For external use only.
Avoid contact with eyes.
Discontinue use if signs of irritation occur.
I paid approximately $10.00 for a 16.9 oz. bottle of Eucerin Plus Smoothing Essentials.
