Pros: Small, quiet, bag-less, powerful.
Cons: None thus far
We have a cat. And a cat means kitty litter. And kitty litter means an almost intractable mess if not addressed daily. We put down a nice industrial, water absorbent carpet under our cats little box in an effort to catch stray grains of littler and then vacuum them up with a Black-and-Decker hand-held, but the little white machine proved inadequate for the task, so we started searching for another hand-held solution. We found the Eureka Hand-Held Vacuum, 71B, and so far it has fit the bill nicely.
The Eureka Hand-Held Vacuum, 71B ($38.54 at Amazon.com) comes fully assembled complete with various cleaning attachments. I had the vacuum out of the box and sucking carpet in under a minute. The only assembly required is to make sure the hose is inserted securely into the base of the vacuum.
The Eureka Hand-Held Vacuum, 71B features a 5 amp motor for power with a spate motor form brushes. The end result is a mean, lean little yellow cleaning machine that gets the job done remarkably well. We only use it suck up litter so I cannot speak to the Eureka Hand-Held Vacuum’s effectiveness on stairs and or furniture. And I cannot speak to the effectiveness of the Riser Visor, “the clear plastic cover that stays down for cleaning horizontal surfaces and flips up so the revolving brush can reach the vertical carpet on stair risers.”
The dust and dirt is sucked into a dirt cup at the top of the unit’s base and is easy enough to empty. The cup is fitted with a filter which does a good job at keeping the dirt and dust from escaping the vacuum prematurely. The cup is small however so cleaning it out after every—or ever other us—is advisable.
We are very happy with the Eureka Hand-Held Vacuum, 71B; the unit is small lightweight, and extremely effective. I highly recommend it!
