mooresites's Full Review: Eureka EL8502A Bagless Upright Vacuum
Disclosure: We have the 8505 Bagless from Lowe's (Green color window) We'd been using an Oreck XL for several years in our home until it finally bit the dust. We have mostly carpet (medium height), so my wife and I wanted something to really do a good job. The Oreck was OK, but we tried my mother-in-law's Electrolux professional and after the difference in suction, I knew we should look into that brand. I did look at Dyson, but ruled it out when holding the it next to the Electrolux. The Lux is just more substantial and seems to be better built. Overall, this vacuum shines as a carpet vacuum. It really pulls out the little stuff. Our first vacuuming was a lesson in humility - I didn't know we had that much dirt in our carpet! I blame the gravel drive . . The one caveat to this vacuum is it's hard floor performance. There is a non-carpet option, but it just doesn't have the suction to handily pull debris from the floor in the kitchen. We've learned to adapt, but it would be nice if this was a better performer. The hand attachment (Turbo wand) is very handy when needed. The whole handle pops out of the base and attachments are few, but well designed for most tasks. Also, the solid construction gives me confidence when attaching and detaching - it just feels solid to re-attach. There is no front light on this model, but I don't miss that too much. There are also large wheels for moving the unit. This is very welcome as it it a bit heavy. This weight, however, does contribute to the great suction on carpet, so it's acceptable.
