Pros: Cleans most anything including floors, many attachments, well-designed
Cons: not sturdy against drops, can burn you, not fun to use on hot days
Please note: The title of this product says that it's a vacuum. It is NOT A VACUUM. It is a steam cleaner that might look like a vacuum. This unit only blows - it doesn't suck. Pun intended.
I purchased the Eureka model 350 and returned it. Instead of buying the 350 for it's ability to clean surfaces and the 310 for its ability to clean hardwood floors, I was at Sears and spotted the Eureka 370. It's like the 310 and 350 in one easy-to-use machine.
This time around, it was obvious that Eureka got it right. The plethora of attachments make it easy to clean and sanitize most surfaces very easily.
The base of the unit is on three small wheels so getting it to your projects is a snap. One thing I will caution you on: DO NOT put the base up on counters or high places while cleaning. Once dropped, the hot water will break the inner seals and the machine will be useless, due to the fact that it will leak and will not build up pressure or steam.
The trigger is located right on the nozzle and either activates by pulling the trigger or by locking the trigger in the on position for constant steam. By removing the nozzle, the pipes and floor unit easily snap into place. The long hose that spans between the nozzle and the base unit is insulated.
I needed to clean a very dirty BBQ. This machine handled the project like a champ. My BBQ grills are now spotless. I used the wire brush and the nylon brush attachments to tackle this job. Be careful, between the steam and the wire brush, it can remove logos or paint, so use caution. The nylon brush works where the wire brush is too harsh. The glass on the front of the BBQ is amazingly clear of all that grease! And because the 370 uses WATER and NO CHEMICALS, I feel safer using it around food and food prep items. Speaking of which, a steamer is great for cleaning cutting boards and counters.
In cleaning auto wheels and engines, it brings life back to the dirty grimy surfaces of the car. However, I would not use a steamer for anything with a painted surface.
In cleaning a bathroom, the variety of nozzles and attachments make any surface like toilets, showers and sinks very easy to clean. I notice that the chrome on the faucets sparkle like new.
Another great cleaning use is for garbage pails. They ALWAYS seem to get really dirty and germs seem to love them. The kitchen garbage bins are the most important to keep clean. This steamer makes the odors vanish and the bins sparkle.
There's also an attachment with a rubber squeegee to clean windows & mirrors (the squeegee is something missing on the 350's attachment). Also, you can steam clean drapes and steam-out wrinkles in clothing.
The tank on the Eureka 370 is much larger than the 350 and that means fewer refills and down-time.
Another great thing about a steamer... the ability to clean pet cages or auto interiors without the chemicals.
Cleaning the floors is as easy as attaching the two pipes and the floor cleaning head. Similar to a Swiffer mop, the cleaning cloth attaches to the head by clips that hold it in place. The steam is released through the cloth and both sanitizes and wipes clean the floor. This is beneficial to parents with toddlers who spend time on the floors. The floors get sanitized with water and no harsh chemicals for your kids to breath or get on their clothes.
One thing that most consumers may have not caught, was the fact that Eureka's new funnel was designed with little ridges on the sides so air gets into the machine while filling it with water. Now, the funnel doesn't back up with water.
Because this unit produces steam, it can burn people and pets, so do NOT allow children to mess around with it at all. Also, on hot or humid days, this is a monster to cope with.
Eureka includes a bag for all of the attachments, but it's a bit flimsy and rips easily. I would suggest using a small duffel or back pack.
I swear by this product, it cleans up my messes with water only...I no longer have to buy costly and harsh chemical cleaners.
