| AtlantaGreg's Full Review: Eureka Enviro Steamer 370 Upright Vacuum |
I've been using the Eureka Enviro Vac for nearly a year now, and I'm afraid my opinion of this vacuum cleaner isn't as good as some of the other user's on here.
I purchased this unit at my local Costco warehouse for around $120.00. It came with the onboard tools, and an extra long hose as well. The price was right, and it was better looking at least, as my ten year old Hoover.
I have Berber carpeting, and two dogs. This should be an easy task for this vacuum (according to the salesman), but like another comment on here I read, pet hair is a problem for the Enviro Vac; it does work on hair in my case, but not with ease.
I treat my cleaning equipment with respect as well, and handle with care everything I own. Still, in the 11 months I've had the Enviro Vac, the head light has gone out, it has clogged numerous times (on everyday vacuum jobs), and it has stopped working several times as well - starting with a "whine" that sounds like something is clogging the vacuum suction, only to find out nothing's wrong. I took it in to a local service shop to have it checked out before calling Eureka, and the service man there told me he had "many" of these come in, and he personally called them "junk".
I'll not completely "slam" them, however. The filtration on the air is good on this machine, as is the extra long power cord. The "Hepa" filters for this machine are much less expensive than other brands, too. The onboard tools are standard, though the attached hose doesn't have the stretch on it I'd like for basic jobs.
Still, I cannot recommend this machine. I briefly worked for a vacuum cleaner company a couple of years back. I'm certainly no expert on vacuums, but compared to many "good" machines of varied brands I saw then, the Enviro Vac does seem cheaply made. I was unfortunate enough not to be able to purchase one of the machines at my old company before (strange rules - new employees could not), but wish I had been able to. It's back to the drawing board for me, and I think this time I'll go back to Hoover. I'm sure the new models are better than my ten year old one now. :-)
