drdevience's Full Review: Eureka 169B Bagless Upright Vacuum
I hate wood floors. I hate tiled floors. In fact I hate any floor that has the nerve to not have a carpet covering it. The indecency of it all! Let's face it, carpets keep your feet warm in the winter and they're hella easier to clean. Pushing a vacuum around is much preferable to a damn broom and dust pan any ol' day. So, of course the temporary apartment we rented in DC has a parquet floor. Oh joy.
Enter Eureka's wonderful Quick-Up Bagless Stick Vac, model 169B. They have another one that looks just like this one. They both have the same bright yellow body and black handle. The difference is that this one also does carpets or, as in my case, area rugs. Oh yeah bay-bee. We're talkin now. No more bending over to try to sweep everything into an uncooperative dust pan. Hey, when you have RA/Lupus, this is a major deal. Trust me.
I was so excited when this arrived I took it out of the package and assembled it all by my little bLoNdE self. It's so light I can't believe it. I figured there's no way this thing can be any good at that weight. We're talking an amazing 4.4 lbs here folks. And the assembly was so easy. Took like a minute. Seriously. Mainly all about snapping the handle in place.
What we have here for that weight is 2 amps of power. (You men can stop snickering any time now...) Look here, that's all you need to keep the floor in a one bedroom apartment clean. Any more than that is just bragging rights. It does just fine. I've not et had to bend over and pick anything up by hand. This little bugger gets it all. That 2 amps powers two motors. One for the Vac itself, and one for the brushes when you move the switch to the carpet setting.
There is no bag to this. You snap off the plastic dust holder and empty it in the trash. Easy as could be. Now, there is a filter in there that ya kinda gotta clean off, but it's easy too. If you ever need to replace it, it's only $3.99, but just run this one under water and let it air dry til the next time and you should be fine for quite awhile.
I don't know what else I can say about this little wonder. The cord is 15Ft long. I could do with a few more inches, but hey.... us chicks are never happy with size, are we? It's long enough to get the job done.
If I have any real gripe at all, it's that it is a bit hard to get right up against the walls in corners. It does better than expected in that area, but you still will wanna keep a broom around to brush that dust that wants to cower out into the open then grab it with the Stick Vac.
OH! I almost forgot. The handle is removable so you can use this as a hand-held vac if you ever have the need. I don't see why you would though, it's light enough as it is to use on stairs, and it isn't cordless so you can't use it in the car... well ok, unless you have an outside outlet. I suppose the main purpose of this feature would be if you wanted to maybe vacuum the sofa or something. I'm just not that domestic. Heh.
So, I'm going with 4 stars overall and saying this is the best damn invention I've come across this year. For $29.99, this is money well spent.
