More suction than many corded vacuums!

Pros: POWERFUL SUCTION AND AIR VOLUME!!
Inexpensive replacement battery packs at $15-20 each
Cogged belt driven brush roller.

Cons: Awkward charging base.
Unregulated charging system may shorten lifespan of batteries.

The Bottom Line: Best cordless vacuum I can assure you!  Rumor has it (shhhhh) this model dusted both the Black and Decker and Dyson.  It has more suction  :)

Two cats and one dog means frustration when constantly dragging out the plug in canister vac.  So we bought this Shark cordless model not expecting much other than a temporary feel-good feeling of hope as the vac and its shiny packaging fit into our cart.  The higher voltage (15.6V) motor and rotating brush made it look less pathetic than the others.  In the past all cordless vacs were bad.  That has changed.

Were we in for a pleasant surprise.. THIS BABY SUCKS and in the best of ways!  It honestly cleans upholstery, carpet, floors.... perhaps as well as the big 14 amp plug in canister!?!  The shark has a smaller cleaning area of course.

The rotary brush head has its own powerful motor and is chain cog belt driven.  Not a wimpy O-ring belt that slips as soon as the roller touches carpet or fabric.  The brush really does work.

Battery pack is replaceable and very affordable.  Ordered two extra packs at $15.00 each to keep the vacuum in working order for many years ahead.  Also ordered additional filters and a spare vacuum motor/turbine assembly just in case.  You can actually order all the parts for this machine at a fair price.  It is not designed to be thrown away when the batteries die as parts are not overpriced.

Very affordable overall and trouble free despite many hours upon hours of use.  The model we purchased did not come with the charger cradle.  You simply plugged the AC adapter jack into the socket on the belly of the vacuum.  A coupon was included to order the cradle if desired.

Ordered the cradle and it is a bit clumsy and unrefined; taking a few attempts to dock the vacuum.  Perhaps a 2nd generation Shark will be available with better charging cradle?

To me charging access is not important.  Most important is the vacuum itself actually works.  It does beyond all expectation.

Noticed that the internal battery pack gets quite warm once fully charged.  Not a fire hazard as NiCd is safe technology, but heat can limit lifespan of NiCd batteries overall.

NiCd are used because they have high current output.  NiMh are low current and not suitable for the Shark's 125 watt motor.  There is apparently no regulator to control NiCd charging, so to maximize your battery life, unplug the charger after a full day of charging.  The owner's manual suggested this as well.  If you keep your Shark on the cradle with minimal use, you will lose battery life.  Simple rule is to unplug the charger after 10 hours charging time after each use.

But again, replacement battery packs are very inexpensive and I suggest stocking up on one or two.  Even after all is lost, the packs are built from standard sub-C units which are very inexpensive and plentiful.

Sorry to ramble on, but finally a cordless vac that honestly works.  :)  I tested a Dyson cordless and Black and Decker on display in another store a few months after the Shark purchase.  I was surprised that the Shark seemed to have much more suction power and air volume.
