After a less than stellar experience with a different Eureka vacuum cleaner I brought it back to the store, Bed Bath & Beyond, and returned it. They have an excellent return policy. You don't even need your sales slip as long as they have a record on your charge card of the sale. I decided because of their good return policy I would look for another vacuum at this store. The cannister vacuums are basically not available here. I prefer a cannister but I started looking into the upright styles.

Most of the vacuums are exhorbitant price wise and I was looking at something for a second home that is only slightly over 1200 square feet. I decided on the Euro Pro Shark cordless VX63. It does look pretty much like a glamorized dust buster but knew if I wasn't satisfied I could easily bring it back.
This is silver grey and lavender and not particularly heavy. I have no stairs but I do have back problems and didn't want to be pushing a monster machine around. The box emphasized pet hair removal. I have two little Chihuahas but they don't shed and actually they're almost hairless. They say you are taking your first step towards pet hair free floors when you open this box.
First of all you have to get to the bottom of the box and retrieve the battery. Your VX63 needs 24 hours of charging before you can try it out. I plugged in the grey charger . Be aware you have to carefully line up the black cord line into the opening near the base of the battery pack. A light will go on when inserted correctly. Look for a little divet that needs to be lined up. You are advised to put the battery back in the charger between uses. You also need to fully discharge and recharges it regularly. This is a Nicd battery.
While my battery was charging I put the rest of the vacuum together. The beater brush clicked into place at the bottom of the Stik Vac. Then I inserted the expandable handle. This feature is great since you can adjust for shorter or taller people. This feature included a latch to lock the height into place. Make sure its locked into place otherwise the latch won't close
The Shark Euro VX63 included a hand vac mode. Just press the release in the handle and above the beater brush and remove the telescoping tube. Take your crevice tool, which is in the body of the Shark and insert it into the bottom of the vacuum tool so it will work as a hand held vacuum. This was another feature I liked since sometimes all I need is a hand held vacuum tool to do a mini clean up.
To remove the crevice tool press the nozzle release button. This is all a very simply designed vacuum . The Shark VX63 does not use bags it has a dust cup you can empty and filters . You get extra filters with your new vacuum (3 come with the vacuum supplies). These are foam and should be cleaned regularly by washing with lukewarm water and allowing to air dry. These have to be replaced every 3 months.
This has a swivel style head which makes getting around furniture nice and easy. It's also cordless which I loved. Online you will see a dual battery pack. I only got one with this unit. The Shark works on wood, tile and carpet. It has a nce large capacity cyclonic dust cup. This is the #1 selling stick vac. Online this was $99. and you get a free iron. At BBB it was $59.91 (orig $69.00 less my 20% off coupon). It's sold at Kohl's with two batteries for $69.00 and Kohl's has senior citizen Wednesdays and many good sales. I don't know what their returnpolicy is like so do some shopping around.
Warnings. This is not meant for outdoors. It is not a toy. Keep charger cord away from heat. Always turn the machine off when changing the battery or parts. There are more warnings but they are all comon sense and in the direction booklet. The booklet will give you information on replacement parts and a number to call.
Emptying the cyclonic dust cup was easy. Turn your machine off. Push the release button, twist and release and carry the cyclonic plastic dust collector container over to your garbage pail. Dump this and return it into its slot making sure the little arrows line up. That's it. No bags.Very green.
My place is only a 2/2 condo with Berber carpeting throughout, tile in the bathrooms, entry and kitchen. I was amazed at what this little machine picked up. I even took a picture of the dut/dirt to send to my daughter. I am definately a fan and would highly recommend it for a small place like mine.
