Pros: Cleans well. Floors immediately dry. No chemicals.
Cons: None.
The Bottom Line:
A great investment. No chemical cleaners, just steam. Pads are machine washable. Anyone sensitive to chemicals should consider this mop. Very sanitary.
Bought my better half a Shark Steam Mop. She had been asking for a steam mop for some time. We have several smaller areas covered by linoleum. She wanted to see if these steam mops would clean as well as when we cleaned the floors by hand.
Why did I purchase the Shark? I researched several models. Some of the less expensive models ($40-$50) received bad reviews due to the mops leaving the newly cleaned floors very wet with puddles of water. Further research concluded not all steam mops are alike. I paid $79 for the Shark.
The cheaper units typically have lower wattage water heaters which may be rated only 500-1,000 watts. The Shark is rated 1,500 watts.
The cheaper mops supposedly took 2 1/2 or more minutes to heat the water. The Shark is supposed to heat the water in 30 seconds.
After using the Shark to clean several floorings, these are the results.
My wife's first comment was that the floors were completely dry right after mopping. As compared to cheaper mop reviews, that's a significant improvement. The floors could be immediately walked upon. You can't do that with a regular mop and bucket.
She said the white in the flooring looks very white. So, the Shark cleans pretty well. More like a cleaning when done on your hands and knees.
She said the water heated up very quickly. Maybe 45 seconds.
She liked the idea of not mopping the floor with filthy water as is done when using a mop or hand-brush and bucket of cleaner.
No cleaning chemicals were used. That means no expense to buy floor cleaners. That also means no damaging of your hands due to using chemical cleaners. This might be a great idea for those who have sensitive skin or allergies to cleaning chemicals.
The Shark comes with 2 pads. She will use one pad for the bathrooms and the other for the kitchen/foyer. This is a great sanitizing idea and will provide the longest pad life.
The pads are machine washable. Unlike Swiffer mops and other such cleaning tools, the pads do not have to be constantly replaced after each use.
The Shark was easy to use in general. Easy to fill with water. Quickly heats. Easy to guide along the floor. Floors can be walked upon immediately. No chemicals.
