After seeing this product advertised several times, and having been disgusted with the old-fashioned sponge mops, I decided to give it a try.
Overall, I am very pleased with this product! It was a little tricky to get the hang of...you have to judge when to push for steam and when to just let the mophead pick up the steam from the floor.
After a couple of tries, I got a tiny bit addicted to mopping.
As with any new product, for me the proof is in who notices a difference. One night my husband was in the master bath and remarked on how shiney the tile floor looked. I was (no pun intended) FLOORED. He has never in 15 years of living in this house commented on a floor. But it WAS so clean, the door was reflecting on it's surface.
If you start off with a very dirty floor, you may need to repeat the mopping process 2-3 times before the floor is completely clean. My kitchen floor is a darker color, and I was really appauled at how dirty it was because I'd been mopping it the "old fashioned way" every week for years. But the Shark Steamer removed all of the old dirt, and now the floor looks like new.
Very impressive stuff in my opinion.
The mop is easy to use with a little practice, removes sticky spots and general dirt, and I just toss the pads in the washing machine when they are dirty. The canister holds approximately 8 ounces of water at a time...I have found one fill cleans my entire 14x20 kitchen easily.
The mop can be used on hard surface floors, as well as any sealed wood flooring. It should not be used on unsealed hardwoods, or in my opinion, very old or worn floors. Refer to the instruction manual for details on appropriate surfaces.
I really have no complaints but I do have a word of warning...as the label indicates USE DISTILLED WATER only! Using treated tap water may result in streaking due to calcuium and other mineral content which may eventually damage your steam mop. Distilled water is still far cheaper than chemical cleaning products, so I consider this very small cost for a squeaky clean, sanitary floor. I find the mop is easy to fill and there is virtually no interruption to the task at hand if you must refill the tank while mopping...who doesn't need a 30 second break when you are cleaning?
