The Shark claims to be "lightweight and powerful" and I certainly won't argue with that. It also claims to have the "same suction as a full size vac" which, I think, needs to be qualified: The Shark is powerful until its miniscule dirt cup overfloweth, which happens surprisingly quickly.
In my household, the Shark serves the almost sole purpose of vacuuming cat hair off the sofa. I don't have a particularly hairy cat, and I still find that I need to empty out the hair half way through the job. Fortunately, it's very easy to remove the front cover and empty out the dirt cup. It's not a messy job either.
I have a few words of advice: Considering the small size and light weight of this vacuum, you might think it would be great for kids to use to help out with the housework. I'm thinking that would be a bad idea. This is a powerful vacuum. Every time I turn it on it just about jerks out of my hand. It always seems to be heading in the opposite direction! Also, the Shark get surprisingly hot very quickly.
On the whole, this is a good buy. I received it as a gift from my mother and she admitted to me that she had bought it for only $15 (Canadian!), so for that price I say go for it.
This tiny silver vac is less than 3lbs, is bagless but not cordless and comes with a crevice tool (odd term, don't ya think?), dusting brush, shoulder strap and hose.
