| Godai-kun's Full Review: Kenmore EP908 Vacuum |
I got this steamer on sale for $80 from Sears - it was $80 too much. I used it exactly two times before sticking it away in the closet and eventually tossing it. Normally I would freecycle something like this, but the performance was so bad that I didn't want to inflict it on anyone else.
The manual claims that this device creates steam, and that's true. But it creates it the same way most "steam" carpet cleaners do - by pressurizing the water so it will vaporize at a lower temperature. The steam coming out of this thing is so cool I can stick my hand right in front of the nozzle and not get burned. This lukewarm "steam" does nothing to sanitize anything, and painfully little to help get anything clean! For all that, it takes an inordinate amount of time to "heat up," and needs to be left to re-heat every few minutes. Using this thing to get my kitchen floor done took more than an hour - at least 3 times as long as it would have taken me to get down on my hands and knees and scrub it by hand - and didn't do as good a job on sticky spots.
The unit is also quite fragile. The first time I used it, I saw steam escaping from the screw-on tank closure, which worried me because it is only supposed to be able to escape through the wand. I opened it up and discovered that the washer which sealed that closure had cracked! I figured that I had simply screwed it on too tight, and ordered a replacement from the company. The exact same thing happened the very next time I used it!
All in all, I would say that this is the single worst household appliance I have ever purchased, and that it has no redeeming attributes whatsoever. Stay far, far away from this one if you see it in a clearance store or a garage sale, because there's a reason it's there!
