When it comes to glass, I'm always worried about breakage. These bottles have been around for years, and even though I did drop on once, it safely landed on top of my foot. (((OUCH))) Let me tell you, after having one hit, you will be extra careful afterward. Before I bought the disposable bottles, I had a set of these and also a set of plastic ones. These were good because at the time I would boil the bottles in a giant pot to sterilize them and the plastic ones always floated to the top. These stayed under a lot better so they would come out cleaner.
After I got a dishwasher, I noticed that the plastic bottles would get tossed about inside the machine, where the glass ones would stay in place. It was great! No bottle brushes, no sterilizer nothing. Just place them in the dishwasher put on high heat wash and you have clean almost sterile bottles. It cut my work time way down.
These bottles are great for nursing a baby, however once the baby starts walking around and wanting to hold the bottle him/herself, then I'd recommend switching to plastic. I never had a bottle break for me, but I wouldn't want the baby to drop the bottle on his/her foot. That would really hurt. The bottles are a bit on the heavy side, and because they are glass, they aren't always easy to grip, especially for a baby who may have drool on his/her fingers. Another thing I've seen when using plastic bottles is the baby lays down with the bottle and then while drinking, drops the bottle on his/her face. (My son did that) If he had been using a glass one, that would have really hurt. I wouldn't use these for a toddler.
These bottles come in 2 sizes. 8 oz and 4 oz. My son was such a light eater, he didn't go up to 8 oz until he was 9 months old and even then he never really downed a full 8 ozs in one shot. He would drink about 4 and then come back and drink the rest after about a half hour. My daughter on the other hand, needed a 2 liter bottle with a nipple attached!
(I'll have to tell the story sometime about how my moron husband (now ex) forgot to feed my daughter all day while I was trying to work to keep a roof over our heads.)
Another nice thing about these bottles is that after your baby has outgrown them, you can sterilize them and pass them on to friends who have new babies (I'd recommend buying new nipples and rings for them). These bottles last a long time.
