Great for home use, too large for travel

Pros: soft, breathable netting, folds out of the way
Cons: only comes in blue, eventually pulls out from bed and needs readjusting
The Bottom Line: As good as any other, at a decent price. Crawling/awake children see it as a fun thing to try crawling over--for 2 and up, like they say.

| esyladnas2's Full Review: Evenflo Soft Bed Rail 395200 |
We've used this on our bed for two years now--for when our toddler or baby gets up in the middle of the night and ends up with us.
It does the job and folds out of sight when not in use. We have a normal sized mattress [8 inches deep], if you have a particularly deep mattress [height] I think a bed rail of any brand isn't much use. Tried it at Grandmas house in the deep mattress and it provided a few inches of protection--not enough in my opinion. In our bed it provides about 7-8 inches of "wall". Netted, breathable material, with no open spaces or gaps to catch on clothing. It also has a small pocket in the netting for a toy.
They recommend these for children 2 and up...I agree. It will keep my 9 month old from rolling out of bed in her sleep but she has recently learned to crawl and has tried to climb over and around it----she's back to the crib! Although when she was a non-moving infant it was MY SAVIOR--I could fumble to the crib, bring her back to bed [not between us as my husband is a DEEP sleeper] and put her between myself and the rail.
The handles that support it under your mattress are rubberized to keep from slipping, but I always double check and push it flush against the bed when putting it up because, in reality it eventually pulls away a little-- a child could get stuck. There are rails on the market that I have seen since that have a strap that runs from the rail, under the mattress and has a plate that comes out the other side to keep it taught--probably worth the $5 more, I would have gotten this had I known. But consider this, you won't be moving that one from bed to bed or from one side to the other quite so easily. Also, when flipping it up into position--make sure it locks into place.
I wish it came in neutral colors, but I've gotten used to the bright blue. If it ever turned up in all white I'd find some excuse to buy another.
