I love this high chair!
My mom bought my sister one for her son (it was this ugly, pastel, modern art looking pattern on a periwinkle base) and she loved it; her son is now 7 years old and he loves it, too, he uses it daily as a desk. So, my mom bought one for my Aunt, a different pattern but still ugly; my aunt also loved it, my cousin is now 6 years old and she also loves it, too, and uses it daily as a desk.
Of course my mom had to buy one for me when I was pregnant. It is a cream/navy gingham pattern with a nice navy blue base- I can live with that considering it compliments my kitchen.
I didn't have any problems putting it together. My son has used it since he was 4 months old. He is now 3 1/2 years old and ALSO LOVES it, he uses his desk daily.
The seat is too large for an infant, my son would frequently flop in the seat as an infant and we would just prop him up again (the restraint just kept him from falling OUT). I could clean the chair easily, just a quick wipe and voila! For the BIG messes I would take the chair pad off, soak it in the tub and replace it on the seat with it's velcro. The plastic seat was easy to wipe down with the chair pad off.
The Steps to Grow was the ideal high chair: the large tray held ALL of my son's messes. It took some trial and error to work the one-handed release, but I'm an expert at that now.
We never used the chair as a booster because my son was never interested in that. Even at restaurants he would rather stand at the table than use a booster seat.
My son now eats at his desk as his own special table. Occassionally he will eat at the table with my husband and me. He uses the desk frequently for drawing/playing. However, the seat is too low for the desk, but he doesn't mind. He also uses the chair all the time: he pulls it up to the sink to get his own cup of water and he pulls it up to the microwave to reach his hot dog. The chair serves its purpose well- it even has a rip up the side in the seam of the chair pad from overuse.
My son has to take a rain check on his desk/seat for now because his little sister is now 5 months old and is using the high chair.
This chair is not any more bulky than any other high chair.
You can't beat all the services it provides in one package!
