Pastel Bottles to the Rescue!
Written: Oct 14 '01
Pros:Durable, Inexpensive, Dishwasher
Cons:Hard to say what's inside
The Bottom Line: This is a sturdy, inexpensive bottle appropriate for home or travel! These bottles have met my needs completely. I think they would be suitable for most babies!
I tried all the other bottles, and settled hands-down on this bottle.
Comparing
Neither the baby or I liked the bottles with inserts, bottles with angles were too difficult to clean, other traditional bottles with fancy design soon peeled off making it very unappealing, and the all-clear bottles were cheap, cracked, and scratched. I'd like to also mention that I did not breastfeed so I'm not making any comparison in that area.
Ease of Use
My baby never had any colic or problems eating or drinking so I didn't have to worry about buying expensive bottles that claim to produce less air. I did have to buy special nipples that flow faster because she only liked the ones with three holes and would actually cry for them. The bottle is also an appropriate size for the baby to hold themselves.
What they comes with
Each bottle comes with the bottle, a nipple, a ring, the flat cover, and cap. They are frequently sold in a bundle of 3 or so. They sell 4 oz. or 8 oz. Replacement nipples and rings are also sold in most places.
Colors
These come in five pastel solid colors: pinkish-red, blue, green, purple, and white. They come in the clear and also the same colors in a creamy tint. They come with matching rings and caps. The bonus is that the rings blend nicely with each other so you can just pull one out and go! Also, you can use the rings to identify the bottle as AM/PM, milk/juice, etc. (same colors milk, mixed colors juice). With the solid color, it's sometimes difficult to determine what is in the bottle. The colors are also suitable for boys or girls!
Nipples
The bottles come with a set of nipples. Some come with silicone, some come with latex. My baby wouldn't use silicone. The latex ones have one small hole. My baby, even as a newborn, preferred the 3 holes. If you need three, you can just stick a pin hole in there. You can buy as many replacement nipples as needed.
Leaking
I have never noticed a bottle leaking except from the nipple if it lays on its side for a long time it will make a nice puddle for you.
Cleaning
I have been using mine for 2 years and are still in great shape. I put the bottles in the dishwasher, the rings and nipples in a dishwasher case. It doesn't get any easier than this. If the milk has sat for awhile it is more difficult to clean so you may need a bottle brush. It may even need to go through the dishwasher a few times. As much as I hate to drop what I'm doing, I usually stop and rinse it out immediately because it's just easier than first of all smelling it hours later and secondly scrubbing it.
Durable
These bottles have been stepped on, thrown, dishwasher, frozen, boiled, forgotten, anything you can think of. You can not hurt these bottles. (I don't warm milk so I'm not sure about the microwave)
Inexpensive
These are cheap enough to leave at your your sitters and more importantly to throw away if you find one under the seat in the car that has been there for an undetermined amount of time. They often come in 3-packs and I found them on sale quite a few times. These go so fast they typically don't have more than one or two left on the shelves!
