| HappyMom2's Full Review: Evenflo Triumph 5 Convertible Car Seat - Everwood ... |
As with all other products purchased for my baby I did exhaustive research on car seats. The one that seemed to be the safest & have the best recommendations was the Britax Roundabout, which is pretty much what I had in mind to buy when I headed to the stores to check out the seats in person. However, the design of this carseat and fact that it meet all of my requirements won me over and we have thoroughly enjoyed using this seat.
In looking for a car seat I wanted one that:
Did NOT have a pull-down arm that sits in front of the baby
Had a 5-point harness
Had a seat back that was NOT at a 90 degree angle (how uncomfortable is that!!??), preferably adjustable
Had lots of padding
Had a comfy, easy-to-keep-clean cover
Had a chest-closure that clicked closed (as opposed to the ones where you thread the strap through a plastic holder)
The baby could use from infant through toddler years
The Britax and the Triumph were the only ones I saw that met my requirements (other than another Evenflo that only came in black leather!!??), what I liked about this one was:
The "new" design that I think will become standard as time goes by, wide & almost circular, reminds me of a Papa-San chair. Some of the seats look like they'd squish the baby in there & they'd have no wiggle room, this one is nice and roomy.
The straps are adjustable, they are connected to a bar that you turn to easily let the straps in and out. My friends who have Britaxes like the fact that the straps velcro to the sides of the seat, out of the way, when you are taking the baby in and out of the seat. I decided to buy my own velcro and do it myself on this seat!
The closure that clicks in place across the chest seems very secure and, in my opinion, the one on the Britax is flimsy by comparison
The seat we purchased was part of the recent recall, all that that involved was adding some metal rings to reinforce the plastic rings that were holding the straps in place inside the seat body.
We bought this seat when our daughter outgrew her infant seat at about 9 months of age, she fit nicely into it without being swallowed up, and should be able to use it until she transitions to a booster seat. We kept the seat reclined and her feet did not reach the back seat, even after she turned a year old we were able to keep the seat turned in reverse for continued safety.
I think this is a safe seat that is comfy for the baby. I think it is a good value for the money, yes, it costs more than many other seats (but less than the $200 Britax!), but can you really put a price on your child's safety?
The only time I might not recommend this seat is if you need to move the seat in and out of the car a lot, it is rather heavy.
