Pros: Fun! Busy & Colorful!
Cons: Pricier than other saucers
If there was a mercedes benz of saucers, this would be it.
A bunch of my friends were telling me that I should get an exersaucer for my son. He was starting to get to the point where he was "pushing off" and doing a lot of knee bending. Whether he was being held or in the tub, so I thought it would be a good thing to try out - for some playful exercise.
I'd heard about a bunch of different ones and I saw that Toys R Us had a coupon in their weekly circular in the Sunday paper. It was for 5-15 dollars off of stationary entertainers (depending on the model).
I went to ToysRus and Wow.. First off there is a whole aisle of these things, and I wasn't sure which one to get. For one of them looks like a little car, and another one like a bug and one is "convertible" into a play station for when the kid gets bigger. [I was tempted to get that one] .
I started looking at all the available features and ultrasaucer had "THE MOST" overall.
-Bounces & "jumps"
-Spinning/Rotating Seat 360 degrees
-Option to keep "stationary" and not Rock.
-Cute "look". The saucer is a green lily pad and all the toys have a buggie/garden theme.
Note: The Safety 1st Play-dee Bug is also really cute, its like a little lady bug and the Safety 1st Bouncing Buggy was like a little car. They were also a lot cheaper. However, they didn't stack up in the features department and just couldn't compete with the ultrasaucer
-Bright Primary Colors make this toy colorful and "happy", but not obnoxious to the eye.
-The MOST toys. Ultrasaucer has 10 toys plus the most variety of toys compared to the others. My son is fascinated by the water-filled dome with the floating frog in it and also likes the musical worms that he can press to play songs!
The only downsides of the saucer were:
-Its the most expensive one on the market, but I had a coupon so I "went for it". Now that I have it, I'd recommend people buy it even without the coupon!! For example, At the time I purchased it there was a sale on the Safety 1st Play-dee Bug [15.99]-- so at 70.00 (before the coupon) the ultrasaucer was quite a lot more pricey. I thought about picking up the Safety 1st Play-dee Bug for at the grandparents house though.
-Our ultrasaucer had a broken toy in it when my husband was putting it together. I called ToysRus and they just told me to bring my receipt and the broken piece back and we swapped it out of an unopened box. Which was great because returning the whole saucer would have been inconvenient.
-The seat was a little tricky to put together
-Height can only accomodate up to 30 inches. My child is 27 inches already and on the middle notch. I'll be sad when he outgrows going inside of it!
-The Graco 2-in-1 Convertible Activity Center has the advantage of turning into a "play" center when the child has outgrown the playseat. I liked this idea alot but the rest of the features didn't "stack up" to ultrasaucer.
ps. On a side note: I was also really shocked to see that they still sold the wheely kind (you know the ones that are so dangerous and kids can fall down stairs or trip over cords with -- my husband did that when he was a kid so there was NO WAY i was getting a wheely kind. I am so surprised that they are still sold in stores considering how unsafe they are.
Update: We had some issues with the large toybar on the saucer. The one we purchased was broken in the box! I returned to Toys R Us and they swapped it out for one that was in tact. When my son was about 8 months old he was playing and snapped the toy bar off and it broke. I contacted Evenflo and they sent me a new one right away. When we put this toy away for future use (if we have another child, etc) the same toybar broke during dissasembly. I have to lower my rating one notch because of the quality issue there, and also possible safety hazard.
