Pros:strong, pure
Cons:may be too strong!, dangerous, flammable, not really for personal use (more for large quantities of drink)
(I will include this with all my review on Vodka. If you read another of mine on Vodka, then skip to the details. Vodka is the most pure alcohol drink. Unless it is flavored, Vodka usually is simply pure ethanol and water. Flavors can be added to make gin. Vodka is devoid of fusel oils. These are other alcohols besides ethanol, such as propanol and other molecules, which are contained in many spirits such as rum or whiskey. In large (or even small) quantities in some individuals, these can be quite toxic and even deadly. This is why vodka is one of the safest and pure choices for new drinkers and experienced ones alike. If you are allergic to alcohol, then you will be allergic to all drinks. But if you aren't then vodka is a sure bet drink, whereas you could be allergic to fusel oils or flavors in other spirits. I learned this in drugs and behavior class and thought I would share. Now, on to the specific brand.)
Ahhhh, Everclear. As I said, vodka is ethanol and water. Well, Everclear is 90% ethanol and only 10% water. This is some of the strongest alcohol you will buy. It has no flavor at all, and when you drink it straight (some people shoot it...not for me) it tastes like pure fire. This is an alcohol made for mixing, only. And I would suggest more as a drink for a party, not for personal consumption (though check out the recipe I'll give for one pretty good drink).
What people usually do with this is mix large batches of juice in a thermos with Everclear for parties. This is how I would suggest serving this tasteless, but devastatingly stron liquor. But make sure no one drinks this stuff and drives. When mixed with juices, like punch, correctly, it is hard to tell how strong it is. But trust me, this stuff packs a major punch! Just think of it like this: for every one drink with Everclear that is two drinks or more with most hard liquor. And if you use the whole fifth with juice (which is common), it is hard to know how strong each drink is. They could be stronger than 2 drinks.
Another way to use Everclear in a good way (it is not an evil alcohol, and can serve good purposes) is to make Jello Shots out of it. There are good recipes on the internet for Jello Shots, but basically, you use half Everclear and half water in the recipe. (never boil the Everclear...it is highly flammable!!) Also, you may want to try half Everclear (that's half a shot) with a half shot of rum in a frozen strawberry-colada. At the daiquri place I worked at, this was called a 911 and was very tasty.
So you may be wondering, why Everclear and not "regular" Vodka? The reason is quite simple. As I said, Everclear is much stronger. It takes twice the vodka to make the same strength drink. It is much easier to mix 1 fifth of Everclear with 1 gallon of punch than 2 fifths of Vodka because you would need more punch, then. It's all about keeping the ratio of alcoholic liquid down. With that much Vodka, there would also be twice the water. Just trust me, for a really strong drink and to keep the flavor of the juice and not have the flavor of alcohol or a watered down taste, utilize Everclear instead of Vodka. Everclear and punch tastes much less like alcohol than Vodka and punch if the volume of actual alcohol is kept the same (remember, you would need two times the vodka). Everclear is great, but just be careful, it's potent!!
