Pros: Easy clean-up. Even drying. Large capacity
Cons: None
The Bottom Line: We've had 4 dehydrators in 20 years, with Excalibur being the best and last one we'll need. It has a special design for even drying, and easy cleaning.

| bajuhe's Full Review: Excalibur Dehydrator |
We purchase our Excaliber online and got free shipping. We paid $200, but got the largest capacity size. The main reason we chose that model was the drying fan in the rear rather than the bottom. We got our old dehydrator up from the basement one day planning to dry some meat, and thought it smelled funny. When we pried apart the bottom, there was all this mold and fuzzy scummie stuff that was impossible to clean unless you ruined the dehydrator by prying off the bottom. That's when we started looking for a different model. With the Excalibur, any drippings are wiped easily off the plastic bottom after the trays are removed. No drippings fall on the heating element and fan as they are located at the rear side of the dehydrator.
I clean the racks and liners in a laundry tub by soaking them first in dishwashing powder. They are easy to clean with a soft brush. They are also dishwasher safe, so I plan on doing that next time.
We dehydrate large amounts of beef when we use the machine so it is very economical. I've tried mushrooms, but found they get leathery. I plan to do blueberries this summer. The beef jerky comes out delicious. The longer you leave it in, the crispier it gets, so anyone's preferences can be satisfied.
I would highly recommend this dehydrator over any of the heat-and-fan-on-the-bottom models. We figure this will last a lifetime and never need replacing due to this one design factor.
