Pros: Great idea.
Cons: Poor execution. Inaccurate. Unreliable.
The Bottom Line: I don't recommend it. It is inaccurate. Why compromise your child's health by using an inaccurate thermometer?

Wow, am I ever disappointed!
I picked up this thermometer when my daughters had mono this spring. After fighting my 2 year old over and over to sit still while I used the underarm thermometer, I bought this in desperation. It seemed like the perfect answer to our battles.
Unfortunately, while an awesome idea, in premise, this doesn't deliver accurate results so I can't recommend it.
I get an accurate result only about 30% of the time, if I take my child's (or my own) temperature with both the underarm thermometer (I actually have tested it with 2 different underarm ones-- both of which have proven to measure within .1 degree of each other consistently.
It doesn't even measure close to the same sometimes. My daughter felt really warm one night, so I tested it and it was 99.4 on the temporal thermometer. I was concerned, because it really felt hotter than that to me. I tested with the underarm thermometer and it was actually 104.7! This is a huge huge discrepancy! And obviously at 104.7, I needed to be aware of just how high her temperature was!
I just can't trust this thermometer. I usually end up testing with the underarm one after using it, which defeats the whole point of having one!
I've changed the batteries and read and re-read the instructions and I just don't get consistent results with this!
