| Ladysmom's Full Review: Extra Strength Bayer PM Aspirin plus Sleep Aid |
In December of 200, we found out that our office would be moving to an older section of our building in order to re-model the section we were in. They were going to gut the whole area and completely re-build including adding several more floors to that area. That meant that all the medical charts had to be moved from one end to the other and we had a deadline to do this by.
Clinics had to be kept running during this time so that left two of us to move those thousands of charts by the allotted time which was no easy task. It took us a month of 12-hour days loading and unloading a 5-foot cart.
I would come home at night with aches and pains and places ached on me that I didn’t even know could. I had trouble getting comfortable to fall asleep at night.
Heating pads were a little help along with aspirin, Tylenol and Advil but didn’t help with the ability to fall asleep because there were still some aches that just wouldn’t go away. I needed my rest in order to be able to function the next day.
I had heard from friends that Tylenol PM did great for them when they had those kinds of problems so I thought it couldn’t hurt. I bought the smallest bottle they had and followed the directions by taking a half hour before bed. Nothing happened. Not even my aches and pains were slowed down so I gave that up.
When I was at Wal-Mart one Saturday I noticed that Bayer made a product called Extra Strength Bayer PM Aspirin with Sleep Aid. My husband said, give it a try; as he wasn’t getting any rest either with me tossing and turning.
While standing in the store I wanted to know what the ingredients were so if I had any questions I could ask the pharmacist right then and there.

I wanted to know about the sleep aid so I asked the pharmacist and was told that it was very mild and for some people it doesn’t do anything and others it does help.
That night I followed the directions on the package by taking two of the caplets 30 minutes before bedtime. These can be given to children 12 years of age and older but not under 12. Most of the time I only took one and had good results with that dosage.
I don’t believe I would want to give these to my child unless my doctor said it was ok. I am just leery about this kind of stuff.
About an hour later after taking the Extra Strength Bayer PM Aspirin with Sleep Aid I was noticing that I wasn’t aching nearly as much and I could find a position to sleep in. I didn’t just jump right off to sleep but felt it was more in tune with the way I naturally fall asleep.
The next morning I didn’t have trouble waking up either. I didn’t have that groggy feeling like the fog wouldn’t lift from my brain. I was able to get up and get ready for work and function like I normally would plus I was more rested and not hurting.
Now for the warnings and there are quite a few.
WARNINGS
Alcohol Warning
If you consume three or more alcoholic drinks per day, ask your doctor whether you should take aspirin or other pain relievers/fever reducers. Aspirin may cause stomach bleeding.
Aspirin Warnings
Children and teenagers should not use this medicine for chicken pox or flu symptoms before a doctor is consulted about Reye's syndrome, a rare but serious illness reported to be associated with aspirin.
Do not take for pain for more than 10 days or for fever for more than 3 days unless directed by a doctor.
If pain or fever persist or get worse, if new symptoms occur or if redness or swelling is present, consult a doctor, because these could be signs of a serious condition.
Do not take this product if you are allergic to aspirin, have asthma, have stomach problems (such as heartburn, upset stomach or stomach pain) that persist or recur, gastric ulcers or bleeding problems unless directed by a doctor.
If ringing in the ears or loss of hearing occurs, consult a doctor before taking any more of this product.
Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children.
In case of accidental overdose, seek professional assistance or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.
As with any drug, if you are pregnant or nursing a baby, seek the advice of a health professional before using this product.
IT IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT NOT TO USE ASPIRIN DURING THE LAST THREE MONTHS OF PREGNANCY UNLESS SPECIFICALLY DIRECTED TO DO SO BY A DOCTOR, BECAUSE IT MAY CAUSE PROBLEMS IN THE UNBORN CHILD OR COMPLICATIONS DURING DELIVERY.
Do not give to children under 12 years of age.
If sleeplessness persists continuously for more than 2 weeks, consult your doctor. Insomnia may be a symptom of serious underlying medical illness.
Do not take this product, unless directed by a doctor, if you have a breathing problem such as emphysema or chronic bronchitis, or if you have glaucoma or difficulty in urination due to enlargement of the prostate gland.
Avoid alcoholic beverages while taking this product.
Do not take this product if you are taking sedatives or tranquilizers without first consulting your doctor.
Drug Interaction Precaution
Do not take this product if taking a prescription drug for anticoagulation (thinning the blood), diabetes, gout or arthritis unless directed by a doctor.
These were copied directly off the package insert and a leaflet that my pharmacist gave me. I didn’t want to para-phrase, as this is too important.
I have not had any problems with this medication but then I don’t use it on a daily basis either. It just helped me get some rest and relieve the pain I was having.
If anyone is having occasional problems with pain and being unable to sleep then I would recommend this. I have not felt the need to take the Extra Strength Bayer PM Aspirin with Sleep Aid because Advil and Excedrin work for my headaches but it is nice to know that there is a product out there that does work when you needed it.
The Extra Strength Bayer PM Aspirin with Sleep Aid comes in a bottle of 40 caplets for around $7.99. I also believe that it does come in a smaller version of 24 for $3.50.
Bayer does place safety cap on their bottles so that little ones will have a hard time opening them but I still recommend that you place the bottle out of reach because some children are very adept at opening things that we adults find hard.
Thanks for reading.
