Pros: Fresh minty taste, long lasting flavor
Cons: Not as strong as other mint gums I've had
I've never been a big gum chewer, but now that I've been dieting I find that a stick of sweet gum helps take away cravings for other, more fattening sweets.
When my Fred Meyer store had cases of several varieties of gum in their marked down bin for 50% off, I snatched them up. One of those brands was Extra Sugar Free Winterfresh Gum.
Description
Extra gum is made by Wrigley's, and this is a package containing 15 sticks of gum. The end of the pack has a little tab that has a small tear strip built in, you simply pull it back around the edge of the pack, and the foil lined end of the package tears off easily.
Once the end is removed, the gum sticks out about 1/2", and are easy to pull out. Each piece of gum is wrapped in foil, and the sticks are the standard sizes, 3" long and 3/4" wide.
The wrapper on this package is a deep cobalt blue color, and claims that it has the same long lasting flavor as their version that contains sugar. The sticks of gum themselves are also a light blue color. Wrigley's says their Winterfresh gum gives you winter cool breath, and was the first winter cool, unique mint gum that came on the market in 1994. Their tag line is "icy cool breath that lasts", and there are pictures of snowflakes on the wrapper.
Thoughts
When I smell one of the sticks, it reminds me of a strong mouth wash, and has a very strong flavor initially, but one that actually lasts for a good 20 minutes before it starts to fade away.
The cooling sensation isn't quite as strong as some other flavors of gum I've tasted, and breathing in through my nose doesn't give me that cooling sensation in my sinus cavities that I've experienced with other brands.
Nutrition wise, each stick contains 5 calories, zero fat, zero sodium, 2 grams of carbohydrates, 0 grams of sugars, 2 grams of sugar alcohol, and zero protein. The first ingredient is sorbitol, and there is less than 2% of aspartame in this gum, which are both artificial sweeteners.
I have three crowns in my mouth and I hate it when gum sticks to my dental work! I am happy to report that while this gum is VERY sticky when I take it out of my mouth to throw it away, it does NOT stick to the porcelain crowns in my mouth.
There's not too much to be said about a stick of gum. Wrigley's made this one very fresh and minty, but not quite as strong as other mint gums I've enjoyed. I was glad to pay the 55 cent price for this pack of 15 sticks, but I don't think I would pay the full regular price of $1.09.
