I bought this camera the Monday before mother’s day 2010, and I absolutely love it! The Fuji Finepix z70 is small, and incased in a metal body. The camera fits easily in small hands as well as big ones. The lens doesn’t pop out like many of the other camera, thus being protected from a broken popped out lens. I have lost 2 cameras from the lens popping out and unable to come back in, so this was a big advantage to me.
I got mine at Best Buy when it was on sale, it included the Camera Case, a 4 gig memory card and the camera for $130 after taxes. The Fuji Finepix z70 has this wonderful cover that slides up and down, to turn it on all you do is slide the cover down and the camera comes on for you.
It's a easy camera to use, it has no wheel on the back for your settings, just buttons. You hit the menu button to select the type of shooting mode you want, iso, image size, image quality, finepix color, white balance, continuous, face detection, af mode, and movie quality. In the settings you can set up the time/date, time differences, language, silent mode, reset, format, Digital Zoom, Save org image, background color, guidance display, and video system.
Now Let me go into detail about each one that I know how to work. First is the Shooting Mode, each mode has its own settings. AE, which is a automatic mode with programmed settings. Auto, which automatic mode setting according to the conditions is being taking. Example, faces, flowers, sunsets, buildings. SR Auto, or Scene recognition, this setting sets optimum setting for certain modes. Natural light setting, allows the camera to retain the ambience without the flash. Natural light and flash, this setting allows you to take two pictures, one without the flash and one with, so that later you can decide if you like it with or without the flash.
Portrait, allows you to take pictures with soft overall tones and skin tones. Portrait Enhancer, it slows you to shoot pictures where the face appears smooth. Landscape, allows you to take pictures of scenes with clarity. Sport, which is great for moving targets, meaning sports games like soccer, football, baseball, etc. Night, which reduces the camera shake for amazing night time pictures. Night with a tripod, which gives you clear shots with a slow shutter speed. The sunset setting allows you to take pictures of sunrises or sunsets with beautiful colors. Snow setting allows pictures of the snow without the bright blinding reflections. The Beach setting allows clear shots of the water and sand. Party setting allows you to take great pictures indoors with people in the room. Flower setting allows you to take amazing photos of flowers, close up or even far away. Text setting lets you take pictures of words clearly. Auction setting lets you shoot and combine up to 4 frames in vga size for e-auctions.
I have personally used the Sports, Natural Light W/flash, Flower, and Sunset, and I have had a ton of compliments on my pictures which you can see here http://picasaweb.google.com/kelins/20100503#
I believe some settings are self explainatory, like ISO, or Image size, or even the finepix color, which allows you to shoot in black and white, chrome, and serpia.
The record mode with the camera is different that any other small camera, it shoots in 720p, which is High def recording. Which is great if you are taking videos of events, like blowing out of candles in birthday cakes.
I am still playing around with this camera and learning new things daily with it. It’s a fun petite camera that has a powerful zoom lens on it, 5x optical and 3x digital. The digital zoom you have to turn on, if not you are just getting 5x, which will still get you close up. Which allowed me to get this shot http://picasaweb.google.com/kelins/20100503#5467212233104418626 .
I'm totally in love with this camera, it is small and compact, allows me to take it with me in my purse all the time, the cover protects the lens, but I have a case with it, so it is constantly protected. It comes with a Lithium Ion Battery, which after charged, has lasted me 3 days of shooting pictures every day. I would recommend this camera to anyone, which is why I have written the Review, for those who want to buy it and are considering buying it.
The experiences I have had using this camera is great, easy to use, easy to figure out, easy to transfer pictures to your computer. I have had this camera not a week yet, It has been sturdy and very small and easy to handle. The case is made of metal and has taken one knock on concrete and still works fine. I simply charged the battery up read the small user guide that is included, and put the battery and flipped open the cover of the camera and started taking pictures.
Once I've had it a bit longer, I will add more to this review, I've had it less than a week, but I love it!
