pestyside's Full Review: FURminator SuperAbsorbent Microfiber Drying Towel
Our bright red microfiber Mud Magnet Paw Cleaner made drying our dogs' snow-packed paws so much easier that I found myself using it to dry their legs, wipe wet tummies and any other place that got wet while tromping through snow. Even though they were magical and super absorbent they did have limitations and rain-wet big dogs needed more, so we continued to hang dog towels (you know the type that resemble thick beach towels) close to the door. Those quickly become cumbersome so I was delighted to discover the FURminator Super Absorbent Microfiber Drying Towel.
This FURminator-green microfiber towel is 18 x 24 inches; it's lightweight and fast drying. It soaks up water in a hurry and if it becomes saturated you can squeeze it out for a little extra drying mileage on big dogs.
The size is convenient - it doesn't drag all over the floor, it doesn't fling water or mud around the room, and it's easy to hold in one hand while grasping your dog's collar. This FURminator Microfiber Towel is relatively new and it appears to have been designed to complement their deshedding products. It works as a bath drying towel although this size quickly becomes overwhelmed. This reduces drying time however, unless your dog is really small the dog remains wet--just not soaking wet. My preference is to use this for removing water picked up while walking (through freshly watered yards or in unexpected rain showers). My old dogs are relieved this isn't being used to extract packed snow from their pads (my oldest Labrador hates snow).
These are machine washable and they're obviously reusable. They're also expensive at $10 to $15 per 18 x 24 inch towel. I found this in a store that was moving and they were slashing their inventory and my price was about 80% less.
The thing about super absorbent microfiber towels is that they're also used for detailing cars (buffing, waxing, and drying) and for polishing jewelry and furniture and many other cleaning tasks. There are different types of microfiber towels and most are absorbent but not all can be used for detailing or polishing. I'm guessing that most can be used for drying dogs. The ones sold for auto detailing cost considerably less; they can also be machine washed and reused. According to MicrofiberPlus.com
"By definition, microfibers are ultra-fine yarns made from various sources. They can be polyester, nylon, or a natural material such as cellulose. Microfiber is two times finer than silk and nearly one hundred times finer than human hair. In fact, many microfiber yarns are so fine that a strand stretching 25,000 miles around the earth will only weigh a few pounds." The smaller diameter yarns create softer fabrics. The yarn is woven into tiny loops and this gives the terrycloth appearance. It's within these loops that the absorbency takes place.
Our Mud Magnet Paw Cleaners cost around $10, they have fingers and long cuffs and a mitten attachment that slips over the fingers. There's a lot of detail in this slightly less than $10 pet accessory. The FURminator Super Absorbent Microfiber Drying Towel is essentially an 18 x 24 inch piece of fabric but they do everything FURminator claims. These towels reduce drying time but unless you're just enamored with the FURminator name I recommend searching auto supply stores for microfiber detailing towels and pick up two or three for the price of this cheerful bright green towel. You might also consider picking up a Mud Magnet Paw Cleaner. Either way you would have similar results and more cash in your wallet. The price needs to come down.
