We stayed at the Fairmont Orchid for 1 week in January, 2007. It is a beautiful hotel complete with lush grounds, golf course, and waterfalls. Service is very good. Upon arrival someone takes your luggage and escorts you to your room giving you an informational tour of the grounds along the way. The ladies are given a lei and the men a Hawaiian necklace.
Our room was fresh, clean, and roomy. We had a private balcony overlooking the golf course and part of the ocean. The bathroom is spacious and has separate bath and shower units. Housekeeping cleans twice a day.
The grounds were the best part. It was not very crowded, chairs were always available. At the pool area you can get towels and water whenever you like without so much as showing a room key. Views are terrific and seem fairly private. You are not facing a slew of other resorts.
The cons to the Fairmont Orchid are that food and extras (spa, etc.)are quite expensive. The breakfast buffet had every kind of food that you could want but costs $30 per person. Parking is also rather far from the hotel. Valet is available.
All in all, this is a very nice resort that I hope to return to in the future.
