| exmedic113a's Full Review: Falken Ziex ZE-512 Performance Tire |
Purchased 4 Falken Ziex-512B 225/60R tires, had a quality shop perform a 4 wheel alignment, and mount and balance the tires. 5,000 miles later, rotated tires with oil change. 7,000 miles, on next rotation with oil change, my mechanic says "your Falken's are wearing awfully fast". Next oil change and rotation, and my mechanic says "two of the four won't pass inspection next time". In just two years and less than 15,000 miles, two of the highly rated Falken tires which are wear rated to 60,000 miles are worn out. Took them to two different independent Falken tire locations. First place couldn't even measure the tires correctly. Second place said, "yeah we will replace them but you gotta pay full retail, and then Falken will/may send you a check". E-mailed Falken direct and customer service says its your problem, you should have rotated them at exactly 5,000 miles, and their must be something wrong with your suspension. Performed a quick web search from huge online sellers of tires to www.nhtsa.dot.gov regarding how often to rotate tires and the range was 6,000 to 10,000 miles.
Had Yokohama Avid Touring tires on prior to the Falkens, rotated them every 7-8,000 miles and they lasted over 50,000 miles. Wasn't hard to figure out what to order next. Another set of Yokohama Avid Touring. I only ordered the Falkens because Consumer Report gave them such a glowing review on performance. I should have stuck with the Yokohama Avid Touring tires. The Yokohamas give good performance, they wear well, reach their tread life rating, and the company stands behind their tires. My opinion of Falken Tires they are vastly over rated, don't wear well, and you won't get 60,000 miles out of a set of Ziex-512Bs, and if you do have a problem, good luck trying to get one of their independent dealers to handle the claim if they didn't sell the tires! Personally, I won't ever buy a Falken Tire again, even for my wheel barrow. PS...I wonder about the quality control when all 4 tires had the same serial number. Think somebody was asleep at the switch when this set of four was made.
