| skack's Full Review: Falken Ziex ZE-512 Performance Tire |
Prior to purchasing these tires I read quite a few reviews. I had never purchased what I would call a "cheap" tire before, but at the time I was pretty sure I would be selling my car within the next six months and it didn't seem like a good idea to drop $700+ on a set of tires.
I decided on the Falcon Ziex-512's and called my local tire guy. He ended up selling me the set for a 15"x7" rim for somewhere around $225 installed. The price was right, but I had to wonder what kind of performance I was going to see.
I wasted no time in breaking these tires in. Three days after installation I took them to their first auto-x event. I would say that the tires were semi-grippy and the sidewalls had a little more flex than I liked. New tires are not ideal for this type of situation because the tall tread can flex quite a bit. Still, the tires performed well and my overall impression was that they were a good set.
The Ziex was a good all-season tire. It seemed to channel water pretty well which was great for negotiating highway speeds in the rain.
Overall I'd rate this tire as a strong buy. It was holding up very well when I sold the car. It did not appear to be wearing excessively. I think the price/performance ratio is very good. You can certainly get better tires if you're willing to spend more money, but I don't think you'll beat these for the price.
