Pros: Main ingredients are meat & meat products; flip-top cans
Cons: Single serving cans; on the expensive side
The Bottom Line: If you want to feed canned food to your cat, Fancy Feast offers a variety of flavors and is chock full of meat, not corn and filler products.

| JDinPA's Full Review: Fancy Feast Cat Food |
Today was a lucky day for my cats ~ I picked up a couple cans of Fancy Feast for them to taste-test. I say it was a lucky day because I actually found a canned cat food chock full of meat, meat and more meat! Yes, it is true, the first FIVE ingredients are meat (of one sort of another). That must be a record for cat foods, canned, moist or dry. Of course, having such a meaty feast comes with a price ~ these tiny little almost single-serve cans of 3 whole ounces cost me .45 cents a can.
Forty-Five cents a can. One can, or even two cans is not going to kill your budget, but feed Fancy Feast as a regular menu item and, well, you'll be spending some real bucks here! The feeding portion, if you can read that itty bitty print on the itty bitty can, is 1 can per day for cats ~ of course that is 1 can per 3 1/2 pounds of that cat that you have. Hmmm, a 3 1/2 pound cat is either mighty skinny, or his owner couldn't read the fine print and has been only giving him 1 can of Fancy Feast a day. If you are feeding this to a kitten you need to feed twice the adult cat amount.
Now I really do not have anything against canned foods ~ I buy canned foods for myself and my family, and I buy canned cat foods for my three furballs. My family does not exist only on canned foods and neither do our cats. In fact canned foods make up a very small portion of our diet (although we have been going heavy on tuna for lunch lately), and I give our cats canned cat food more as a change of pace meal every now and then. I prefer dry cat foods for convenience and economical reasons. In addition, there is no can to dispose of, no canned food smells, no problems leaving leaving the food out in a bowl and worrying about it "crusting" over, and no concerns about dental health. Canned foods are for special treats and surprises.
I chose Fancy Feast Turkey & Giblets Feast. The cans that I bought had Ultimate Taste and Gourmet Cat Food on the front of the label. I mean you are paying good money for that little can, you had better be sure that it's full of gourmet food!
The ingredients, in order, are turkey, liver, meat-by-products, turkey broth, and poultry giblets. Next in line are natural and artificial flavors (What ever they may be. Do you notice that they never do tell you just what those added flavors are supposed to be? Is it turkey flavored "things," or dirt flavored? We will never know). The rest of the ingredients read like a vitamin bottle, with all sorts of vitamins, minerals and supplements. There was no added colors or dyes.
Crude protein is only at 11%, which is surprising with all the meat and meat products that lead the ingredient list. Crude fat is at 5%, kind of on the low side too. Moisture is at 78% which is expected since it is a canned food ~ one interesting note to make here is that no added water is used, they used turkey broth instead.

My cats did like their Fancy Feast taste-test. The bowl was cleaned out in only a couple minutes. I will buy Fancy Feast again, letting my cats try other flavors, but will still continue to serve only every now and then. Their main diet will stay with the dry cat foods.
Check out Fancy Feast next time you are in the pet food aisle. Choose a gourmet flavor and give your cats a whisker licking treat!
