Pros:The size of the can is perfect for my cat
Cons:Taste, taste, taste; why so many meat-by-products?
The Bottom Line: Cat food and greens do not mix, at least for my cat.
One thing I learned about my son and my cat is how picky they are when it comes to eating. There are only certain foods that appeal to them. Once they find what they like, that's it. Good luck in trying to get them to try new things. So it came as no surprise that my cat, Dixie, didn't take to any of the new Fancy Feast Elegant Medleys line, despite the fact that she is a Fancy Feast girl.
Fancy Feast Elegant Medleys Lean Turkey Florentine with Garden Greens was a free sample that we received. The first noticeable thing was the different metallic green packaging to distinguish this line from the regular one. It looks a bit more polished and refined. I guess "elegant" really would be the word for it. The other thing I noticed was the addition of "Garden Greens". I wasn't sure how she was going to react to this. She enjoys nibbling on cat grass and the leaves off plants. Having greens in her actual food was going to be an education for all of us.
I know my girl likes eating turkey and enjoys eating Fancy Feast Chunky Turkey Feast. The turkey was lean as advertised, sauteed in a flavourful poultry broth producing a nice-looking sauce. I t really looked like a gourmet dish when I put it in her plate. I thought that this would be a great change for her, or as my wife would say "we need to mix it up a bit". However, the entire product was absolutely unappealing to her. Introducing spinach to turkey was a no-no in her books. She sniffed it a few times and turned her nose away from it. She didn't even make an attempt to taste it at all. I knew she was fussy but that was taking it it to a whole different level. I guess she was trying to tell me that "if this was the one thing left on the planet to eat, I rather starve".
The 3-ounce aluminum can is the perfect size for her. Anything bigger and she will completely overeat and it's not a pretty sight. I also appreciate the "easy open" tab to pull the lid off. No can opener is needed and will probably collect more cobwebs from inactivity. Even though the look of the can has a more distinguished look, I get more confused by it than I do with the regular line. I easily find the flavours I need by the colour coding on the cans. The Elegant Medleys make it just a bit harder to do so having the entire base coated with the metallic green colour. I really have to look at the small bit of colour featured on each can, as well as actually reading the label, to see what flavour is being advertised. Even worse, because this is a "gourmet" item, the cost of this product is higher than the regular product, usually in the 79-83 cent range. This is available in all grocery, drug and pet stores, and even online.
Fancy Feast Elegant Medleys Lean Turkey Florentine with Garden Greens sounds like a good concept in terms of producing a better quality cat food, but i really don't see it at all. All the alterations can be done to make this product look better than it is, but in the end it's a waste of money if my cat is going to ignore the product. She may not have received proper etiquette training but she definitely has learned to turn up her nose.

Another two-for-one special.
With characters named Wildcat and Cheetah in the Justice League, I'm sure some cat food must be part of the diet. Or is that just Catwoman's gig? Just another "Connecting the Dots" review.
