Pros: good texture, good taste appeal
Cons: contains by-products, soy flour, artificial flavors, expensive
The Bottom Line: My ailing cat will eat it, good protein sources for first 5 ingredients, nice texture. Despite by-products, I do recommend this food.

One assumption I can safely make about your cat, is that like mine, it has a unique personality when it comes to its preferences in food and treats. One could, on a bad day, simply accuse them of being spoiled, but for the most part, I think we all see it as part of the delightful, quirky nature of the species. Such thoughts aside, there are reasons why your cat may prefer one food over another. Sore gums or teeth may put your kitty off dry kibble, conditions such as Chronic Renal Failure can lead to an anorexia where a food that appeals one day or week, may not the next. Creativity and sensitivity are a must in dealing with one's darling and their diet!
My Eye's View
Opening the only size can this food is available in, 3 oz., by using the easy-open pop top, I see a lovely pale pinkish product that does not have a ground pate texture. Nor does it have what I'd consider flakes. Since this is a food I have on occasion assist-fed Patrick, I found the food to be a combination of thin shreds and nice firm chunks of meat. The odor is not offensive (some canned cat foods smell like the bottom of your garbage disposal), and cat response to Fancy Feast Flaked Chicken & Tuna Feast has put this flavor on our "Buy Again" list.
Taste Test
Patrick is at times enthusiastic about this flavor, enough so that it is the only one he will eat for days at a time (which is a pretty good recommendation given how fast he can reject or turn away from a flavor!).
He gives this 4 Paws Up!
What's in the can?
I am going to just list the first 12 ingredients, the rest are added vitamins and minerals, these are the "heart" of the food.
poultry broth, fish, chicken, tuna, liver, meat by-products, wheat gluten, turkey, soy flour, soy protein concentrate, natural and artificial flavors
Ash content is a bit higher than some flavors of Fancy Feast, at 3.5 maximum.
Final Thoughts
If one is willing to accept a few less than optimal ingredients such as artificial flavors and the use of by-products, you have a food packed with good protein sources, and none of the preservatives that I choose not to feed my cats (BHA/BHT and Ethoxyquin). Fancy Feast is easy to find, being sold in many grocery stores, most pet stores and pet superstores. The small size, though expensive, also gives you a better way to gauge the food intake of a senior or ailing cat. The 3 oz. size and the pop-top also makes this an easy to carry food if on a trip with one's cat.
I give this food 3 Stars for being palatable to Patrick, full of good sources of protein.
