Pros: Good protein/carb/fat content for my cat with diabetes, nice tuna smell.
Cons: meat by-products, artificial flavors
The Bottom Line: I recommend this as an option to ask your vet about, for your cat with diabetes. My cat loves it, and it has comparable "as fed" values to Purina Dm.

| patriciak's Full Review: Friskies Fancy Feast Flaked Gourmet Cat Food |
I have several cats in their senior years. Along with slowing down (just a bit) and napping more, various health issues have arisen. Tyler, my solid black American Curl, is a retired show cat. We traveled thousands of miles going to cat shows years ago, and he loved every minute of it. His favorite position was standing on my shoulders as we walked back from a show ring, waving his tail in my face.
He's been retired for a long time but continued to have an incredible shine to his coat, to maintain his weight, versus getting plump and soft. When his coat became dry and he began losing weight, sleeping a lot and not responding to me with his usual adoration, I knew something was wrong. Tyler was diagnosed with early diabetes, which we are treating with diet only at this time. Read on to find out why Fancy Feast Flaked Tuna Feast is one of the foods I feed him to control this condition.
~Tyler's Opinion
Of course, it makes no difference how good a food is for your cat, or whether or not it's prescribed by their vet. Cats pay such details no attention. To them it's the taste and/or texture of a food that counts. Tyler loves Fancy Feast Flaked Tuna Feast. He eats a hearty portion of this food which features a finely ground texture with solid flakes of fish, and has a nice "tuna" smell. Each time this is served he lets me know, in that non-verbal way that cats communicate, that this is a real "treat". He gives this food his highest rating - 4 Paws Up!.
~The Handmaiden's Opinion
After Tyler's diagnosis, his vet recommended a prescription food - Purina DM - a canned food that is high in protein and fiber and low in carbohydrates (side note...same kind of eating approach that I follow!).
Unfortunately, Tyler did not like this food and soon began refusing to eat it at all, making this an ineffectual approach to handing his diabetes. I asked and received permission from my vet, to feed Tyler foods that are comparable in protein/fiber/carbohydrate content. I was fortunate to find a wonderful site that had compiled a list with this nutritional information (on an "as fed" basis) for many of the prescription, and popular brands of canned cat food on the market. I learned from this list that Purina DM Canned contains 46% protein, 47% Fat, 7% Carbs and 0.8 gms of fiber. I've included the values for Fancy Feast Flaked Tuna Feast below. For those of you dealing with diabetes, the list I used is available online at: http://www.sugarcats.net/sites/jmpeerson/canfood.html

~Final Thoughts
I love the convenience of being able to find Fancy Feast gourmet canned cat foods at my local supermarket (though to get a full range of all their flavors and styles, one has to go to a pet superstore such as Petsmart, I've found.) I love knowing that Tyler enjoys and will eat this flavor, when he would not eat his prescription food. To me, that makes it worth setting aside my preference of not feeding foods with artificial flavors, meat by-products, carbs such as wheat and soy. I give Fancy Feast Flaked Tuna Feast a solid 3 Stars.
Thanks for reading!
