Pros: trout, fish broth, fish...for your fish loving cat!
Cons: meat by-products, wheat gluten, soy protein concentrate, artificial flavors, xantham gum.
The Bottom Line: Recommend with reservations. For an occasional treat if you do not mind use of soy, by-products and artificial flavors, does contain trout as third ingredient. My cat *did* enjoy it.

| patriciak's Full Review: Fancy Feast Flaked Trout Feast Gourmet Cat Food |
I was intrigued when I first saw this flavor offered by Fancy Feast. Trout is not a usual cat food ingredient, and I hoped it would both serve as an excellent change of pace for my cats, as well as provide a unique protein source for them. If you've read any of my past reviews on cat food, you know that I prefer "real" foods that are not mainly composed of wheat flour, soy, corn or by-products. And from past experience, see my review Fancy Feast Seafood Filets Sardines Shrimp & Crab, I know that sometimes Fancy Feast really does provide a gourmet cat food. What was my opinion of Fancy Feast Flaked Trout Feast? read on to find out!
~The Can and It's Contents
All Fancy Feast canned cat food comes in just one size - 3 oz. Each features a convenient, easy to use pop-top lid and is made of recyclable aluminum. In case you are interested, the interior of each can has a white lining. When you open Flaked Trout Feast, you will see pale colored (color of boiled chicken)product,in a slight amount of opaque gravy, and a texture of thin chunks in irregular sizes. Though they call this a flaked product, versus their chunky, ground, or minced varieties, it's hard to tell much of a difference between the chunky and flaked varieties.
~Taste Test Report
This time the reviewer is my solid black American Curl Tyler, who has early diabetes being treated with diet. Of course, he does not like the prescription canned food he is supposed to eat, so I feed him comparable foods readily found at my local grocery or pet store. For variety, I offered him this flavor, though it is not the best of the options out there for him in terms of protein/carb/fiber content. Tyler loved this food - he didn't come up for air until he'd eaten 3/4 of the can, and looked up at me with bits of trout feast hanging off his whiskers...it was an enthusiastic meal!

~Final Thoughts
Well, I keep hoping I'll see more Fancy Feast flavors of the quality found in several flavors, including the one I listed at the beginning of this review. This is not one of their best. I'm glad it has trout as the third listed ingredient, and actual fish items for the first and second. But I see no reason for soy protein concentrate, thickeners such as xantham gum and carageenan, additional proteins such as chicken and meat by-products in a seafood formulation, and I will never understand the use of artificial flavors...if the quality of the ingredients used is good, it will taste good. Perhaps they are trying to mask the flavors of the wheat gluten and the soy?
I will recommend this with reservations, that if you do not mind feeding your cat a product on occasion with by-products, soy and flavorings, this will make a nice treat, and a nice change of pace. I would not recommend it for every day use.
Thanks for reading!
