Pros: gravy, dainty diced bits of beef, high taste appeal, easy to find.
Cons: artificial flavors, by-products, expensive.
The Bottom Line: If your cat demands beef, try this food. It does contain by-products and artificial flavors, but gets good cat response and is nutritionally complete.

| patriciak's Full Review: Fancy Feast Minced Beef Feast Gourmet Cat Food |
A cast of feline characters are the motivation behind my extensive search through available cat foods, including the full line of flavors and various textures provided by Fancy Feast distributed by the Nestle Purina Petcare company. Who is Ophelia and why does she like beef? Does she like Minced Beef Feast? Read on to find out!
~Ophelia, my sweet diva girl
Ophelia's registered name is LadyHawke after Michelle Pfeiffer's hawk by day/woman at night character in the Rutger Hauer, Matthew Broderick, Michelle Pfeiffer fantasy classic of the same name. Ophelia is a dark, cold brown mackeral tabby American Curl who has the art of feline verbal expression perfected, and has always been quite good at sighs and moans, dramatic flops on the side, gazing at you with just the tips of her eye teeth showing...she is a diva, a character and much loved in our home.
Ophelia has asthma and 1 year ago developed a bone lesion on one front leg, that our vet came to feel was bone cancer. She went through several painful (so she told me) bone biopsies, many x-rays and other major inconveniences she would have preferred to have not experienced. There isn't anything I would not do for her or give to her, and I rather think she knows this. Ophelia is a tad picky about her food. She has fairly consistently loved beef.
Fancy Feast Minced Beef Feast was a favorite for quite a long time. Currently, she likes it but it doesn't like her, leading to messy regurgitations on my one imported rug. Of course...why she throw up on the cold wood floor?
~The Food
Minced is the finest texture you will find outside of the ground pate textures of Fancy Feast. It has a high proportion of sauce, and a good amount of tiny, diced bits of meat. Opening this 3 oz. can is easy, just pop the pop-top lid (making it great if you travel with your cat, as no can opener is needed, and few of my cats eat a whole 6 oz. can at a time...so there will be less uneaten food for you to discard.
Ingredients - Because they do matter
Meat broth, beef, liver, wheat gluten, meat by-products, fish, corn starch - modified, poultry, soy flour, soy protein concentrate, natural and artificial flavors, salt, caramel color, and a full complement of added vitamins and minerals including Taurine. This food meets AAFCO standards for the nutritional requirements of your adult cat.
Feeding Guidelines call for feeding one can per 3 pounds of weight, twice as much for kitens. This will give your cat the following (from the Guaranteed Analysis):
crude protein...(min)11%, crude fat...(min)2%, crude fiber...(max)1.5%, moisture...(max)78%, ash...(max)2.5%, taurine...(min)0.05%.
~Final Thoughts and a few Words from Ophelia
This a juicy, finely diced food that seems very easy for my older kitties to consume, and for my beef-appreciating diva girl, Ophelia, has been a favorite. Am I ecstatic about some of the ingredients...no, I'm not. I prefer foods made without artificial flavors, soy, by-products. But that doesn't mean I won't use this food on occasion, or in Ophelia's case, as needed to get her eating. In her own words "It's beef, it's daintily presented, I liked it a lot until recently. But then, it was time to see what else I could get her to find...she stops looking if I don't throw a hissy and insist on a bit of variety!"
Thanks for reading!
