This drive was inexpensive - under $60 from Buy.com, after rebate (Onrebate.com tried to deny my rebate, but thats another story).
Makes a slight "thump" while reading/writing. I wonder if this is a sign of impending doom?
UPDATE: 4/18/2007 - DEAD
The hard drive is dying, and I am not able to get large files off of it before it throws an error. I have opened up the case (which voids the warranty, but I don't care). The model # of the actual hard drive is MD01200-BABW.
Labeled "Product of Singapore".
Googled the Model # and it is apparently "manufactured" by MDT. MDT Appears to be MDT LLC, formerly Magnetic Data Technologies LLC.

***MDT reassembles hard drives using components outsourced from major brand hard drive manufactures ie. WD, Maxtor and Seagate.***

***MDT today announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire one of the world's largest hard disk drive manufacturer's repair operations, in Singapore***
So the reason Fantom Hard drives are so cheap is that they sell you a repaired hard drive without telling you.
