Pros: Lightweight, Bagless with a bottom emptying dirt cup. Price.
Cons: Gets clogged easily, Over heats often, and I can't find replacement belts.
I bought this purple, silver, and black colored bagless upright vacuum by Fantom about 2 years ago. I regretably report that it has been out of commission for the past 5 months.
WHY I BOUGHT IT
At first I really liked this upright because it is light weight and stylish. It has a removable handle that doubles as the hose/telescoping steel tube feature that makes vacuuming stairs pretty simple. Also, you get the convenience of the, bottom emptying, dust cup instead of a dreadful bag. It is advertised to have "tap clean rinseable 99.97% true HEPA filtration" system that caught my attention. I found it at a local K-mart store for less than $100.
WHY I STOPPED USING IT
After using it for over a year I decided that it wasn't worth the hassle anymore and bought a new vacuum. First of all, the dust cup is pretty small so it has to be emptied often. Second, the motor over heats a lot and the appliance shuts off to cool down. Finally, it gets clogged easily and has to be taken apart and cleaned with a wire hanger about every two weeks. Simple animal hair from a Pomeranian creates a blockage.
Nothing fancy here. The only accessory/attatchment is the above mentioned hose. The usual accordian-like hose is connected to the handle that is a steel tube. When you pull the handle out of its resting place, you can use it to vacuum your stairs and corners that are hard to get to. This is one thing that I actually enjoyed about the Fantom Compact Bagless Upright. There is a handle on top of the dust cup that allows you to carry the vacuum around with you while you clean the smaller, hard to get to, areas.
Weighing only about 20 pounds, it's easy to manuever around the house. However, there are lighter light-weight vacuums out there for around the same price.
The only store I have been able to find this Fantom in was K-mart, but they don't even sell it anymore. I never was able to find somewhere that sold the replacement belts, not even the store I bought the vacuum in carried them. It's almost as though this product was made for suckers and it proved that I was one.
