Cons: Nonstick?
The Bottom Line: This is an excellent cookware set for the money, and but for the nonstick feature that doesn't work for me, it is highly recommended.

| Suzer's Full Review: Farberware First Course 8-Piece Nonstick Cookware ... |
Have you ever heard Dr. Phil asking someone "So, how's it workin' for ya?" Well, I asked myself that about my cheap, grocery store cookware purchased many moons ago (though I'm sure he wasn't referring to cookware with that question). But, frankly, well, it wasn't. They were poorly made, and I was dissatisfied.
A few things motivated my purchase of this cookware. That was the first. Secondly, I had accrued a couple of gift certificates from taking surveys online; thirdly I found this cookware on sale.
The Farberware First Course 8-Piece Cookware normally sells for $288. The site where I purchased it had it on sale for $35.00. I ended up paying under $15.00 for the whole set, and shipping was free. Such a deal!
What is included?:
* 1 Quart Covered Saucepan
* 2 quart Covered Saucepan
* 5 Quart Covered Dutch Oven
* 7" Deep Skillet
* 10" Deep Skillet
The product features per the manufacturer:
~The lid from the dutch oven also works on/fits the 10" skillet.
~The set is made of heavy-gauge aluminum so there is fast and even distribution of the heat.
~The coating is scratch-resistant, and the manufacturer states the cookware set is non-stick. They note that that covers both the pans exterior and interior.
~The handles are riveted, and you will find they are safe in your oven (up to 350 degrees that is).
~There is a lifetime warranty.
Their suggestions on handles and the knobs:
Basically they suggest you use caution when handling the knobs/handles as they can get very hot (I haven't run into that, but keep it in the back of my mind when using).
Be careful not to place the handles over other burners, and also be sure they don't hang over the oven-you don't want them knocked off.
They also suggest you check the handles and knobs regularly to ensure they aren't loose. If they do loosen up, rather than repair yourself, contact their Consumer Relations.
My experience:
I was very pleased when this set arrived at my door. The appearance is attractive; the handles and knobs are very sturdy (unlike my previous cookware). However, I was surprised that I was not given instruction on washing the set prior to using it. I therefore just rinsed it quickly in lukewarm water. In using the skillets I found they were not nonstick unfortunately, and that has been my only disappointment. While it wouldn't seem that Pam (or comparable spray products) should be necessary, I find that it is. As long as I spray the pots and pans with Pam, there is no sticking and the cookware set is excellent for my needs. The skillets have been used for making omelettes, cooking bacon, sauteing onions. Casseroles, stews, have been wonderful in the Dutch oven. Rice, stuffing, vegetables, have been cooked to perfection in the pots.
Final thoughts and recommendations:
When you purchase a $288 dollar cookware set for $14.00, you have to be happy with what you get. I have found this cookware set very user friendly; appreciate the charcoal color, the attractive knobs and handles, the efficiency of cooking with them, and the ease of cleaning. The cookware is dishwasher safe, however I am the house dishwasher. You should, of course, wash after each use. If you have any spots that are tricky, the manufacturers suggest using Boni Ami or Soft Scrub. Do of course be sure to let the pans/pots cool before washing. Don't use anything abrasive on the pots/pans or glass covers.
This set has worked extremely well for me, and as mentioned before, my only letdown is that it is not nonstick as promised. If you have a big family be sure that this set is big enough for you, size-wise. You may require larger pots/pans/skillets. I am giving it 4 stars!
