| 42ENGLISH's Full Review: Farberware Millennium Satin Enamel Nonstick 12-Pie... |
I am so abusive with my cookware that I have to buy heavy duty, good quality pans if they are going to last for a while. I am not a bad cook but I have been known to burn up a few pans just because I like to cook on high temperatures. My daughter has also taken on the family tradition in worse ways than me. I am constantly reminding her that when she is cooking, she cant just leave the stove and go take a shower while something is simmering. Its a wonder the house hasnt burned down.
With this purchase, however, we both agreed to change our ways. I bought this set about six months ago and wanted to use it for a while before I gave my opinion. I bought the Farberware Millenium Non-Stick Aluminum Cookware Set at Foleys for $129.00. I was familiar with Farberware. I had a Farberware stainless steel rotisserie that made the best, juiciest, roast chicken. That rotisserie is still going strong after 11 years.
A little about Farberware
..
In 1900, tinsmith, S. W. Farber set up a workshop in a small basement on Manhattans Lower East Side, where he transformed sheets of copper and brass into bowls, vases and other giftware. His business grew over the next several decades as he introduced silver, nickel and chrome-plated finishes for his product lines. In the 1930s, Farber broke into the world of small appliances and in the early 60s he created the now familiar stainless-steel electric frying pan with a removable probe and aluminum clad bottom. Over the course of 100 years, Farberware has become synonymous with quality, durability and innovation.
The Cookware:
This set includes:
1 Qt covered saucepan
2 Qt covered saucepan
3Qt covered saucepan
8 Qt covered stockpot
8 Open French Skillet
11 Covered deep skillet
Out of black, navy blue and garnet, I opted for the garnet colored set which is an awesome color. These pans are not for the weak-wristed, they are pretty heavy. The enamel on these pans is shiny and thick with a tough finish. The DuPont Teflon Platinum Pro three coat, nonstick interior is also thickly coated and tough. These pans have stainless steel handles that are long and bolted into the pan to make them strong. The stainless steel lids are durable and thick making them difficult to dent. I particularly like the skillets. The depth to the 11 inch is enough to cook ample amounts of food at once. Even though this set is basic, I have found that they are sufficient for my needs and have not had to add-to.
The Cooking Experience:
Cooking in these pans is so easy. Because of this superior nonstick coating, you dont have to hover over the stove, stirring as much. I love the depth of these pans which make it virtually impossible to spill. I make homemade gumbo and if you are familiar with the process, you know that cooking on high heats and making rue can ruin your pans sometimes, especially if you burn the rue which I have been guilty of in the past. These pans are hardy and perfect for high-heat cooking.
They have not shown any signs of weakness after six months and I am finding that even if I burn food badly, they still clean up easily. They are also oven-safe to 400 degrees so I keep them in the oven to keep food warm sometimes. I havent baked anything in one though. The handles do tend to heat up if you are simmering for long periods so a mitten must be used at times.
Durability:
I do use an oil spray while cooking, when possible, just to prolong the life of the nonstick lining and I never use metal utensils. After six months, there is not a scratch on the enamel sides of my cookware. The lids are as shiny as new but do have a few light scratches. The bottoms of the pans are the only part that need attention regularly as cooking grime hardens there and needs to be scrubbed off.
I have noticed a few light scratches on the non-stick interior of my skillet. Methinks a certain teenager may have had something to do with that though.
Cleaning this cookware is a breeze. You can wipe them clean with a damp cloth if you like and they are dishwasher safe although I find them to be a little bulky for the dishwasher, especially the skillets.
Conclusion:
I think I made a good choice when I bought this Farberware Millenium Non-Stick Aluminum Cookware Set. The enamel coating is tough. The non-stick interiors are thick and durable and the pans are handsome too. They have proved to be tough enough to withstand high heat Cajun cooking and clean up easily. They make my cooking experience stress-free.
I think that this set will last a few years, I have no doubt of that which is more than I can say about any other cookware set I have possessed. The only problem I have is that these pans are a little heavy but I guess if they werent, they wouldnt be the heavy-duty pans that I need.
Thank you for reading.
