dianer's Full Review: Farberware FCP512S 12-Cup Coffee Maker
I love the coffee this machine makes and, unlike the carafe type of makers, the coffee temperature is HOT which is really great.
There are just four buttons on the maker - program, clock, set, and on/off. They are easy to use but not completely intuitive, so keep the instructions nearby. The window showing the time is readable but a little too small in my opinion, as are the brewing indicators.
The coffeemaker has a pleasant ding when it's done brewing, and another signal when it automatically shuts off 2 hours later. Very nice features I think.
I also wanted everyone to note the comparisons to the popular carafe-type makers: there is no water window on the outside as there is with the carafe kind of coffee maker. It's hard to see the inside markings when adding the water. The 'footprint' on the counter is about the same. Note that this pot is a lot heavier than the carafe, especially when full. And although this doesn't matter to me, there is no way with this kind of a machine to stop and pour until the perking is all done. The cord color is black which doesn't go in most kitchens. The good news is that the Farberware doesn't drip all over my counter like some of those messy carafes, and perking is faster than my old carafe!
The manufacturer says not to immerse the pot in water to wash, but I found that this is not a problem. The pot cleans easily. I also use a full paper filter in the basket (the kind that covers the grounds completely) and not only does it keep grounds away from the coffee but it makes clean-up easy.
The more I use this, the more I'm happy I bought it!! There's something about that perking that I love.
