mjdart's Full Review: Farberware FCP512S 12-Cup Coffee Maker
Woah, the quest to find this percolator was extensive. You might consider ordering online or call first. My wife has been bugging me for a percolator like mother used to bring out for after dinner for family gatherings. I was hesitant as I'd never actually used one before and figured they were old fashioned. A co-worker mentioned how he is really into "coffee" and percolators make an excellent cup. Well I started looking around and quickly became obsessed. I narrowed my choice to the Faberware and a Delongi. I prefered the Farberware because of the corded base unit which allows the pot to be carried about with out unplugging it first. The base on the Farberware also allows you to pre-program a start time much like a drip maker. The farberware unit also had that clear top handle which lets you see the coffee perking as it brews. Well I decided to buy and so began my quest. After work I stopped by Target, Linens & Things, Bed Bath & Beyond, Burdines, Dillards and finally WalMart on the first night. Not one store carried the FCP512S. The second night I stopped at BrandsMart and a super size Linens & Things store, no luck. I swung by Sears and finally JC Penneys. Penneys had three in stock BINGO! I looked it over and the fit and its beautiful chrome finish sold me. By the way none of the stores except the Home Depot upscale store EXPO had had the Delongi Percolator but many had Farberware's lesser models with out the cordless base.
My wife was very suprised and pleased. How does it work? Beyond my expectations thats for sure. It was simple to set up first entering the correct time. The pot fits very smartly on the handsome base. I gave the pot a quick washing as the instructions suggested. I filled the pot with 6 cups of cold water and the basket with 6 level tablespoons of Maxwell House and assembled the tube, basket and its top. I slid them into the pot and put the top on. Press the on button and 5 minutes later I had 6 excellent cups of coffee. They come out much hotter, as I prefer my coffee and also noticably tastier than a drip maker.
We will soon try out some self ground coffee when I try out my Krups Grinder purchased after reading recomendations here. The pot and components dissamble easily and clean up is really simple. The chrome on the pot shines up real nice with a dish towel and the base unit really gives this unit a really handsome look.
