Re: It's not THAT expensive ... (Reply to this comment)

I'm not sure if you're trying to dispute my review or agree with it, since I point out pretty much everything that you do. You'll note that I do recommend visiting Fashion Island, as I myself do regularly.
As I write this (8/24/05), there's only one bookstore (Barnes & Noble), and since it's a chain that can be found in multiple locations throughout California I wouldn't consider it a reason to visit Fashion Island on its own.
What I would recommend for someone on a budget, however, is to peoplewatch. It's fun on a sunny afternoon to watch kids playing in one of the fountains and people walking their dogs (something you won't generally see in most shopping centers). That's what I enjoy most about visiting Fashion Island, and it's free!

at least if you shop like I do, which most people don't :-(.
If you're going to buy clothes, your review is probably accurate, although prices at the department stores aren't any different from what they are elsewhere.
If you want books and food, as I do, you'll find prices for same are no different from any other mall.
Sure, you can buy a $30,000 watch if you want it, but if you stick to dining and reading, you won't spend one thin dime more than you would if you went to an ordinary mall.
Fashion Island is such a beautiful, smoothly run place, and the atmosphere is so cool that I don't think people should be discouraged by the fact that it has some very expensive upscale stores. Pain de la Monde has the best cinnamon twist in the world. Visit for that, and for the atmosphere, and you won't spend too much.
