My Finicky Feline Thinks They're Fabulous

Written: Sep 01 '05 (Updated Sep 01 '05)
Pros:Healthful and tasty cat treat; good for dental health.
Cons:A bit pricey at $4.99 for each three ounce package.
The Bottom Line: Feline Greenies are a tasty treat that help keep cats' teeth and gums healthy, and they don't smell!

Greenies are probably well known to most dog lovers, but now cats can enjoy this popular dental treat!

Feline Greenies are made by the same company (S&M NuTec) that make Canine Greenies. The felines are also shaped like small toothbrushes and are green in color, but they are much smaller than the canine version. These are about 1/2" long and about 1/4" wide. They have no discernable smell.

Feline Greenies are formulated and, the package says, clinically proven in independent studies to reduce tartar buildup on teeth. Less tartar means better-smelling breath. They are designed to be a treat between regular meals.

Feline Greenies have natural preservatives in them. They come in four different flavors: salmon, ocean fish, chicken and liver. My cat seems to love them all the same. He loves them so much that he ripped open the foil bag (it had been opened and resealed) just to get to them. My cat is used to crunchy treats; I don't give him soft treats at all, so he was used to the crunchiness of the Feline Greenies.

The ingredients on each package are they same, although the "natural flavors" are obviously different. I've listed the ingredients at the bottom of my review to make it easier to read.

Feline Greenies provide a crude protein minimum of 27%, crude fat minimum of 12%, crude fiber maximum at 10%, moisture maximum of 10% and ash maximum of 6.5%. Each serving size of six pieces contains 11 calories and recommended feeding amout is up to 18 pieces per day.

According to the Greenies package, it took four formulations of Feline Greenies before the company found the perfect combination of flavors that cats love. The company seems to have hit the nail on the head because my finicky feline cries for these treats. It's good to know what I'm giving my cat for a goodie is good for him, too.

Feline Greenies offer variety and taste in a healthful cat treat. From the reaction of my cat, Othello, I can highly recommend them.
