I found it!!!
Written: Oct 15 '01 (Updated Oct 15 '01)
Pros:Pine fresh, flushable, dust free, environmentally compatible.
Cons:If not used as directed, cats may rebel.
The Bottom Line: This is for those of us who hate the smell of litter boxes but love our cats!
So I see this Kitty Litter advertised on TV. I note that after using, you can toss the used litter into your garden and use it as mulch. Hmmmm....THAT caught my attention. So I gather my son and off to the store we go since I needed to buy more cat litter anyway. We find it at our trustworthy Winn-Dixie, 2 7lb, bags for $5.00. The front of the package says that it is a four week supply. Okay, if you say so! I sincerely have my doubts, but my willingness to cut down on box cleaning and getting rid of the smell led me to the counter to pay for my purchase.
DAY 1
I take the two litter boxes outside and give them a thorough cleaning. Take them back in and dry them, Check the package to see how much I am supposed to use and then proceed to open the bag. Oh Oh! First booboo. It doesn’t look anything like any of the other litters I’ve used. This litter is exactly what the bag says! Pine Pellets! I guess maybe I should have left some of the old litter in the box just to make sure the cats would use it. Oh well! I pour in an inch, which is what the bag says to do and then place the boxes in their prospective spots. The cats have been watching me this whole time and after I placed the boxes where they belonged, the cats decide to investigate. I just stand back and watch through one eye wondering if they were going to test it. Well MaMa cat sniffed the box, looked at me and I swear she snubbed me. It was if she was saying, “And you expect me to use THAT?”. She then turned and walked out of the room. My other female cat (She is my hero!), walks over to the box, smells it, and gets right in and pees! That was good, right? You think that once one of them gets in and does her/his business the others would smell it and know what it’s for, right? WRONG!!!!
Tonight, I hear one of the kittens inside the cabinet that my fish tank sits on. I go to shoo him out, and when I opened the door, the nastiest stench filled my nose. That little monster pooped inside the cabinet!!!! I took him and the other kittens into the bathroom, set them inside the box, stuck their little noses into the litter and then left them locked in the bathroom with the litter box.
I checked them after a while to see if they had used the boxes, and guess what? They didn’t use it, instead one of them did his business on the throw rug beside the tub. Now I’m really angry! For the night, they are locked in the hallway with the other litter box. There is no carpet, only tile floor and the dreaded litter box. I am hoping that by morning they have figured out they are supposed to use it!
DAY 2
This morning I held my breath as I opened the door to the hallway. The kittens all scrambled out and headed to my bathroom. I walked down the stairs expecting to find mounds of poop on the floor, but there was only one. The kittens HAD used the litter box! What I saw in the litter box was really interesting. When the cats urinate into the litter, the pellets break down looking more like pine shavings. And guess what? There is NO odor. I think I like this stuff! Now I go to clean the other litter box. It has some poop in it, so I scoop it out, flush it (the directions say I can do that) and shake the pellets around a bit, just like the product bag tells me to. All is right with the world this morning. The biggest plus of the event is that there are just two little pellets on the floor. No muss, no fuss! No need to drag out the dust buster THIS morning.
It is now evening and I check around the house for kitty poop out of place. None this time and there is even some in the litter box! Alrighty then! I guess a little time out for the kittens was a good thing. I do notice that they are using one litter box more then the other so this one will need more litter more often. I also notice that after mixing the pellets around that there is still NO urine smell! There were a few pellets scattered around on the floor but I just picked them up and put them back into the box. Still no need for the dust buster.
DAY 3
Since the kittens had used the litter boxes the day before, I decided to give them access to the spare bedroom off of their hallway for the night. When I entered the hallway this morning, I glanced in the litter box and realized I saw no poop. OH NO!!!! When I entered the bedroom I was ready to scream. They had saturated the mattress with feces AND urine. I shooed them out, cleaned up the mess and knew the mattress would have to be disposed of. Now my new kitty litter was costing more money. So, I empty both litter boxes and start over. This time, I put a thin layer of the new kitty litter on the bottom of both boxes, and then put some of the old Tidy Cats on top of that. Would you believe that as soon as I did that, every single one of my cats decided to use the litter boxes! I know, I should have read the product package, or even gone by one my old habits of weaning off of something old to get into something new. But hey! I’m not perfect and this was surely a great lesson! I am going to try to get the kittens to use the new litter on its own by the end of this week. Something else I noticed.......When I tried to force the new kitty litter onto my cats, they stopped eating! Hmmmmm...talk about a temper tantrum. After using the boxes this morning they started eating like it was their last meal. If they poop on my bed again, it just may be. JUST KIDDING!
DAYS 4,5,6, and 7
The last 4 days has been getting the cats used to the new litter. On day 5 I emptied the boxes of dirty litter, put in 1 inch of the new litter and just barely sprinkled the old litter on top of the new. This has worked really well. The cats are using the boxes conclusively and now I don’t have to worry about messes where they aren’t supposed to be.
FELINE PINE
This cat litter is like no litter I have ever used. Don’t let the 7 pound bag fool you, it WILL last 4 weeks. Feline Pine is veterinarian recommended and can be used even for post-surgical use. It has no odor since it is made of pine and pine bonds ammonia. There is very little tracking, no dust (this is the truth), no chemicals, AND no trash. You just scoop, flush and then toss in your garden to use as mulch. I know my trash pick-up guys will like that since every time they come for my trash, you literally need a gas mask before opening the garbage cans.
INSTRUCTIONS
Pour 1 inch of clean Feline Pine into the litter box. Scoop solid waste daily and flush. Shake box gently back and forth to renew pine scent. Change litter only when all the pellets dissolve. Normally this takes about two weeks but it may be sooner if you have as many cats as I do. After scooping , use dissolved pellets for mulch or compost. And please, don’t try to push this straight on your cat. Mix with your old brand of litter and gradually add the Feline Pine. Believe me, I know what I’m talking about!

MY OVERALL OPINION
I sent out an SOS a few reviews ago, searching for the perfect cat litter. I found this on my own with a little help from my television set. I love the fact that I have no urine odor trying to take my breath away each time I change the litter box. I love the fact that I can flush the solids and not worry about my toilet getting clogged. I love the fact that nothing in this litter actually goes to waste. My garden is getting the benefit of this litter and it isn’t costing me any extra to buy mulch. So, Suzer, lorinsilver, and any other cat lover out there, please try this litter. I know it’s a small bag, but you can get 2 for $5.00, and it really does go a long way!
