neecolea's Full Review: Farnam Products Feliway 75ml Spray
My 15 year old cat had started to urinate throughout my basement. Not spraying, but urinating and in large volumes. I don't know why. Litter box was clean, nothing new in the house, did not appear to be ill. Before I stressed him out by taking him to the vet (stressed myself more with an unpredictable vet bill), I cleaned up the mess (which meant thoroughly cleaning my basement) and I started to observe him very closely. When the cat continued to urinate (despite cleaning well with cat-urine specific cleansers and using cat odor removers) I decided to purchase Feliway. It is a cat pheromone that is supposed to decrease stress and undesired behaviors in your cat. I researched whatever I could find on the product and despite the cost, I went ahead and gave it a try. I sprayed all of the areas that he was frequenting, and did so 1-2 times per day. I also bought the diffuser and placed it in an outlet in the basement. After about one week, he no longer urinated anywhere but in his box! I have considered all that I did during that time and I am convinced that using the Feliway was significant in changing his behavior--and I am not an easy sell. It was the last addition to my cleaning repertoire, and he continued to urinate in my basement and not in his litter box up until I started using the product. I will continue to purchase this product and encourage others who are stuck with similar problems to try it as well. I have been using it successfully for 2 months now. I paid approx. $30 for the spray bottle and $40 for the diffuser.
