three_ster's Full Review: Fellowes Intellishred PS-79Ci Shredder
The new shredder we have in the office is a Fellowes PS-79Ci that was on sale at Office Depot. It was an upgrade from what had been used in one of the offices, and when it was "used up" we moved on to this Fellowes Cross-Cut Paper Shredder. It was selling for just over $100, and has quite a few specs that really drew us to the shredder. Fellowes has been a dependable brand in prior instances for me, and this model has turned out to be nothing less than superb. First of all, this is a cross-cut shredder, so it makes mince meat of the paper as it gets fed through. The slot takes up to 12 sheets of paper at once, and is engineered for heavy use in either the home or office. I think that it works well in the office, but it could work as a high-end shredder at home as well if that were the choice.
One of the huge selling points for the Fellowes Intellishred PS-79Ci is that it is guaranteed not to jam when you are feeding the paper into the opening. Where some shredders will take in the paper and cause a problem right away, there are a couple of measures that this particular shredder takes to make sure that nothing gets jammed into the gears. The first thing is that there is an electronic panel beside the feeder that digitally measures how many pages of paper are being fed into the machine based on its thickness. This is a little bit "Star Trek" for the first time it is used, as it seems almost like it is powering up as you put more pieces of paper into the feeder, with the more pages equating to more bars. Too many bars get lit up, and the feeder just won't take the paper, thus preventing the jam from occurring. I am sure if someone really wanted to jam up the shredder that they possibly could, but it is a hard thing to do with the new technology they have.
The big thing about the measuring device is that it saves you the time of figuring out if you are putting in too many pages at once. It will reject your "input" if it’s too thick, and lets you adjust the stack without actually having to count the individual sheets. The look of the shredder is sleeker than other models I have used before as well, and with the nice digital reader on the top, it almost seems "flashy" in appearance. That digital reader also helps present a safer tool, because it has what they call Safesense Technology that keeps your hands protected if they get too close to the paper opening. This sounds like a great thing to have with kids around, and makes the shredder even more appealing for a home office. At the base of the shredder sits a 6-gallon bin that pulls out the front of the device when you want to empty its contents. It's easy to maneuver out of the base, and you can wheel the whole shredder close to your wastebasket to make it an easier process.
The Intellishred PS-79Ci Shredder comes with a nice 2-year warranty, as well as a lifetime cutter guarantee for the blades used on the shredding itself. This is probably one of the best Fellowes shredders that I have used before, and it comes in a nice compact and affordable package if you ask me. The price was just right for this model, and it has presented itself with extremely powerful performance and a smooth interaction with all of its users. Having a nicely reliable shredder is a gift to anyone that has to use a shredder often, and this is one that has proven itself to be well worth the purchase. With so many selling points, including being jam proof, having the Safesense technology to protect your fingers, and giving it all in a compact yet powerful package has made this a purchase that I can highly recommend to anyone looking for a new shredder. This Fellowes Cross-Cut Paper Shredder was at Office Depot, and I think that it can be a helpful office tool in the home or at work.
