Feynman's Rainbow.... As Seen From Mlodinow's Lens...
This memoir of the physicist-turns-science-fiction-writer Leonard Mlodinow recounts how reading Richard Feynmans books inspired him into physics, his time as Feynman's junior colleague at CalTech, and the perspectives he gained from the experience.
Being a physicist, Mlodinow relates most of his experiences to physics (always in layman-friendly terms). The book isn't about physics, but his life and what life lessons Feynman imparted on him while he wasn't being cranky (the crankiness is very excusable since Feynman was battling cancer at the time). While Mlodinow tends to make academic study out of the observations he discussed with Feynman, the old professor had a way of seeing things refreshingly simply (while cutting straight to the essence of the matter).
This is a well written book that is so engagingly written that it keeps you reading until you run out of pages. I wish he had included some photos, but he can already put images in your head so well with his words that he doesn't need additional graphics. A great book to present to anyone with a mild interest in science, its philosophy and perspectives in life.
