The Bottom Line: Fidelia’s is a solid 3-star kind of place – you won’t be wowed, but you probably won’t be disappointed either

If you’ve lost track of time gambling at Mohegan Sun and you are hungry, your only real choice for 24-hour sit-down dining is Fidelia’s restaurant. Offering a large selection of American cuisine, most people are likely to find at least one thing that interests them.

Diners used to have two 24-hour dining choices at Mohegan Sun, but with the closure of Mohegan Territory, Fidelia’s is the only sit-down, 24-hour restaurant now available at Mohegan Sun Hotel and Casino.

Where is Fidelia’s?

Fidelia’s is located on the upper level of the mall between the older Casino of the Earth and the newer Casino of the Sky and is at the end of the mall closest to the Casino of the Sky. If you go up to the upper level of the mall on the set of escalators in front of the large waterfall, Fidelia’s is to the right of the Hotel Lobby, just past Michael Jordan’s Steakhouse and right before Leffingwells martini bar.

Fidelia’s doesn’t accept call-ahead reservations, but during busier times will let you put your name down on a list and give you an approximate time to come back and get a table.

What’s on the menu?

There are three different menus at Fidelia’s based on the time of the day that you’re there. There’s a breakfast menu, an all-day menu, and a late-night menu for those night owl gamblers.

Breakfast
In the morning, you can choose from a breakfast buffet or from various individual breakfasts. The menu has a wide variety of options – from the typical pancakes and eggs to omelets. There are also several different combination breakfasts available so you can get those pancakes with eggs and bacon or one egg with french toast. For those who don’t like breakfast – you can get a burger or a deli sandwich during breakfast hours.

My personal breakfast favorite here is the steak and eggs. It’s not the best steak and eggs I’ve ever had – but especially after a night full of gambling, it’s something I really enjoy here. Though between the steak, the three eggs, the toast and the home fries – I rarely ever finish the whole meal when I am there.

I’ve never been a breakfast buffet kind of guy, so I’ve always steered clear of this choice. However, it is a pretty expansive buffet that is set up – with scrambled eggs, pancakes, french toast, sausage, bacon and a bunch of other breakfast choices.

Lunch/Dinner
The all-day menu is a collection of diner foods and American cuisine that shouldn’t surprise anyone who’s eaten at restaurants like the 99, Fridays, Ruby Tuesdays or Applebee’s (though it’s better than Applebee by a long shot). To start, the menu offers a choice of soups, salads and appetizers that do a good job at covering most people’s tastes. The soups include the New England standby – New England clam chowder, along with corn chowder and a soup of the day.

The appetizers include chicken quesadillas, buffalo wings, shrimp cocktail and onion rings to just name a few. I’ve always been partial to the chicken fingers and the buffalo chicken wings, and there hasn’t been a visit (except in the morning) where my partner hasn’t gotten the shrimp cocktail. The portion size on the appetizers is not that big – expect a single appetizer to handle the needs of about 2 people – so as your group gets bigger, order more or just order a couple of different ones so that everyone has some choice.

The chicken Caesar salad at Fidelia’s is my fallback healthy meal option when I’m here. It’s a good sized salad with plenty of chicken and is quite filling, easily big enough as a meal for me. There are side garden salads available (they actually come in a mug), along with an Asian chicken salad, a spinach and chicken salad and a mixed-greens salad.

The rest of the all-day menu is a mixture of deli and hot sandwiches, burgers, entrées and a reduced selection of breakfast items for those who are just dying for some breakfast. Items that I have enjoyed include the open faced turkey sandwich, the turkey burger and the roasted half-chicken. Portion size with this part of your meal is better than the appetizers – the portions are definitely bigger. Most of the time I can’t finish an entire entrée or sandwich and neither do most people who are with me. Other items include various steaks, a few pasta dishes, along with pot roast and seafood.

I’ve never been a big fan of the desert menu at Fidelia’s. None of the choices really interest me, though when my arm’s been twisted, I usually stick to the chocolate pudding cake, which isn’t bad, but is a bit rich for my taste. There’s also cheesecake, a few choices of pies, and ice cream.

Late Night Menu
The late night menu at Fidelia’s is really only a slightly shrunken version of the all-day menu. Each of the sections has been trimmed out a bit (except for the appetizers). Basically the menu provide a little of everything. My steak and eggs are there – and strangely enough – nothing seems to be more fulfilling at three or four in the morning.

Drinking
In addition to your typical sodas, coffee and water, Fidelia’s offers just about any alcoholic drink you can imagine – from beer to hard liquors.

Prices

Just like all the other restaurants at Mohegan Sun, you’re going to be paying a premium at Fidelia’s just because it is in Mohegan Sun. That means the average person should expect to spend around $15 for breakfast and probably around $25 for lunch, dinner or late night if all they are getting is a drink and their meal. If you want to have an alcoholic drink with your meal, that will add to the overall price – as will adding additional sides, appetizers or deserts. When I go, I expect to spend at least $25 to $35 per person when you add in the drinks and the appetizers, no matter when we are there.

Like all the restaurants here, Fidelia’s accepts the players club points you earn while gambling at Mohegan Sun, so you can pay either the traditional way with cash or credit, or you can use your players club card to subtract the cost of the meal from your point balance.

Service

The service at Fidelia’s is neither all that great, nor all that bad. I’d best describe it as decent. I’ve never been wowed there, but I’ve never had an overly bad service experience either. Sure I’ve waited a bit too long for something or had a waitress forget about something – but that is understandable – and nowhere near as bad as I’ve experienced at other Mohegan Sun restaurants.

I guess I’d say Fidelia’s was a shaky B if I had to give them a grade. Some days it’s a B+ and some days it’s a B-, but I’ve never experienced service that I would consider an A, or had a bad experience that would fall below a C.

Ambiance

Because Fidelia’s is on the second level of the mall, it’s cushioned from the sound of the casino, however sound from the mall easily leaks into the restaurant, as it has been built into a curving portion of the mall and is basically an open alcove.

That said, it is a comfortable place to eat with big cushy booths available, along with plenty of tables for busier times. It can get noisy if the mall is crowded or the restaurant itself gets crowded, but generally it’s easy enough to carry on a conversation with others at your table.

Final Thoughts

I like eating at Fidelia’s during the late night hours when I’m at Mohegan Sun (which thankfully for my sleeping habits isn’t that often anymore). You get a wide selection of items that satisfy everyone I’ve ever been with and you get decent service, especially when the restaurant is quieter during the late night hours.

Fidelia’s isn’t cheap, but then again, there’s not a single restaurant or store in Mohegan Sun that is inexpensive.

Overall – Fidelia’s is a solid 3-star kind of place – you won’t be wowed, but you probably won’t be disappointed either. So if you’re looking for food at 3 in the morning at Mohegan Sun, wander up to Fidelia’s and feed that appetite.
